Watch yourselves ladies! just a reminder...
Also, having had that rather horrible experience (for those who don't know, dying seems like a wonderful alternative to living through a night/morning after being drugged) my stomach is rather sensitive and my throat is extemely raw and swollen. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can eat? I've been eating lukewarm chicken noodle soup and hot chocolate, but any other suggestions would be great...
Be careful! there are some awful people out there!
corrected typo
What the hell is wrong with some people??
Stick to liquids until your throat is better - I used to have fruit sorbet (or just ice) while I had glandular fever & couldn't swallow without excruciating pain. Also really soft, non-acidic fruits: maybe canned peaches?
I guess whatever you can handle swallowing!
You have my full sympaty :S
you need to report this to the police, if you havent. there may be a pattern involving that bar or a person of interest that they already know about. i think roofies have a short half life but they may still be able to detect levels in you blood-- in case they ever do catch the guy.
i was drugged once. not a good thing. to this day i dont know what happened.
Oh wow, scary stuff. This also happened to my best friend 2 years ago when she was out in Miami.
As for food maybe make a puree? Boil some veggies in stock until they are very soft, then either blend them in a blender (be careful when blending hot liquids!) or whip them with a spoon. A good combo would be carrots, peas, and squash. You want to make sure you are getting some healthy things to help heal your body faster, so maybe drink that Formula 50 Vitamin Water that has 50% of all your daily vitamins? Also lentils can be quite mushy and are very good for you.
I hope you're feeling better soon... that is so f'ed up!
Drea: no I did not report it to the police for a few reasons, mostly because I had been drinking (I was on my third drink, which should be enough to make me a bit tipsy, but NOTHING like I was, which was passed out and vomiting for hours, sorry for the TMI) but the fact that I had been drinking would have gotten the friend I was staying with in BIG trouble. Also, I was (apperently, I don't remember) stupid enough to take a drink from a stranger who no one could describe. So it would be kinda pointless. And it's pretty much my own fault for being so dumb.
Anyhow, I have officially learned my lesson. There really is a reason people tell you to guard your drinks, and its not because they are crazy and paranoid!
Years ago, a lady my Mom worked with, her daughter had just graduated from University. A physiotherapist. Had gone to school for 5 years, and was so excited! Graduation day, they had their ceremonies, then of course, the after-grad party.
Celebrating with the graduating party that night, they were all together, lots of friends, etc. Someone put something into her drink. Next thing you know, she's standing in a window of the apartment building where they were, and was saying that she could fly...FLY! She started flapping her arms...and stepped off the ledge. And fell. Five stories to the cement below where she died.
This was a girl who did NOT party all through University, but felt she finally was going to, because she and her friends had worked so hard. She was committed to her family, her friends, and volunteered at the children's hospital throughout her education. This was where she had just accepted a position as a physiotherapist, and was starting the following week.
My girls are 11 and 13, and I cannot count how many discussions we have had about ensuring that YOU get your own drink. Never accept one from anyone else when partying. And don't trust ANYONE. I've told them this story a few times, hoping it will make an impression.
I would SO go and press charges, hockeygirl.
sorry to hear this happened to you.
This has happened to me twice before. Thankfully I have been lucky enough on both occaisions to be with friends who got me home safely. Please everyone be careful with your drinks, never accept drinks from strangers, always hold onto your drink - even take it with you to the bathroom. Drink out of a bottle with a straw where you can and keep your hand over the top of your glass.
Try not to beat yourself up about it too much. The person to blame is the one who did this to you, whether you had been drinking or not. Be thankful that nothing worse happened and please, please be careful in the future.
Hope you feel better soon!
But yeah, try not to beat yourself up over it. You'll know better for next time I'm sure. The only safe way to have a stranger buy you a drink is to watch the bartender pour/make/open it and have him hand it directly to you rather than the other person. If you're not sure that you can manage that, then don't take the drink. I'm really sorry this happened to you.
You could probably press charges against the restaurant you were at they obviously have not fullfilled their duty of care by allowing people carrying drugs into their premises.
and the bar has no duty of care to protect you from unknown third parties.
