water aerobics vs land exerxise

Quote  |  Reply
I work out twice a week doing Tae kwon do and kick boxing( I love these two)  and three other days I have been working in the gym (machines, elliptical) The problem is I am sick of the gym and find excuses to leave early and slack on the exercise, so I started doing water aerobics instead. I could never get up and leave in the middle of a class so I keep going, but as I look around ( at everyone old enough to be my grandma~hope that is not offensive to anyone) I wonder if I am getting enough of a work out as if I was on dry land. I LOVE the water but am not an elloquent swimmer so I thought this would be good but now I am doubting  myself.

Any thoughts?

I have done the water aerobics and it is actually very good for you to do for you don't apply any pressure on your joints as much as you would do if you would be out running or walking! I thought it was really hard and I felt great afterwards!I am in a rut myself for the lack of training I am NOT doing now...I am bored.

I am proud of your indurance for the activity you are doing!!

Way to go ...hey, maybe you have even gotten me inspired again to get it going with my training!!

Keep with the areobics....do  you use water weights in the pool...great arm excercise!!! It is everyone to do!!
thanks norge,

I really enjoy it and do feel tired after so I figure it must be good, today I was able to buttons all the buttons one "the" black dress so it must be working ( I measure myself with a particular dress that I want to wear in July)

:)
Maybe consider other forms of exercise.

Like Swimming laps, bicycling (on a real bike), jogging (on a track or through your neighborhood), or something?

I personally am not sick of the gym, but I do get in some time at a local track that goes around a beautiful lake to breakup the monontony of hitting the gym so often.

Something else... while at the gym plan out what you are going to do and stick to your routine.   Break it up so you only do certain muscle groups so you won't feel as bad for not doing more or feel overwhelmed that you haven't done enough.

Overall though, do you really need the gym 3 days a week?   I mean you are already doing Tae Kwon do and Kick Boxing.   You could cut it down to 2 days and either do nothing the other day or pick some new activity to fill in.
I've never done water aerobics (I might think about it now) but I find that being in the water is much more refreshing to me ... I am not one of those people who likes to feel hot and sweaty. I'd much rather be comforted, and in the water I don't feel hot, sweaty or sticky. I feel cool.

So if you're one of those people, then it would be great for you!

I think it also has less of a harsh effect on my joints whilst working my whole body at the same time.

Even if you're not an excellent swimmer, why don't you make that an incentive to go and to learn to be better? Swimming really is awesome. :]
