Maintaining
Moderators: iae

I know that it is important to have 8 - 8 oz. glasses of water a day.   While dieting I have been taking in quite a bit more.  Now that I am maintaining, I wonder if drinking more than 64 oz. a day is necessary.

If you have been maintaining, do you find yourself drinking as much water as you did when you were restricting your calories or dieting ?

Your insight and comments and very much welcome and appreciated.  Thanks alot !

You can never go wrong drinking water.  64 ounces is sort of the norm for every healthy body, isn't it?
playergirl I'm not giving up my water, still doing about 2.8 litres a day.  That said, 64 oz. is probably enough...

It might be harder to keep drinking water when the weather turns chilly.  In Aus. some people drink hot water with a squeeze of lemon, so I might consider that this winter.
Thanks. Just trying to figure out if drinking 92 - 100 oz. is necessary when maintaing.  Haven't let up on the water yet.  Oddly, I find it annoying to have to take a break to go to the bathroom like every 30 minutes.  It's the sodium thing that's got me puzzled; seems like a catch 22.  Drinking loads of water and sodium two things happen:  water retention from sodium and then more water to flush it all out.  I know I will always drink at least 64 oz. - but the more is what puzzles me as i am not looking to lose anymore weight but don't want to be a bloated fool.  Thanks again.  Figurethefat, hot water and lemon - hmmmmm.  Thanks. : )

There are websites where you can calculate how many ounces of water you should drink a day. They say that everybody is different so who's to say that something that works for me will work for someone else? I work in a hospital and, believe it or not, to much water can be just as bad for you as not enough water.  There are such things are water intoxication and hyponatremia. Now, you would have to drink an enormous amount of water for something like this to happen, but there is a website that I found where you can calculate how much water based on your weight and how much exercise you plan to do for the day. It's work checking out and I hope that it helps!

Wow  -  thank you crazygal.  I am off to look into that website.
Well, I looked at the website crazygal suggested, and then I Google searched a different wording.  It all seems to be trial and error and this will be one of those other things that I just have to do and learn on my own.  Thanks for you comments and I do appreciate it very much.

Here is what I have found:

Hey, no problem. I had also heard about what that website suggested when it said to take your body weight in pounds and divide that number in half but I couldn't for the life of me remember what it was. That sounds more reasonable then what the website I recommended suggested.
