It's the morning of day 4 of my water fast I've had a couple small black outs. That didn't bother me because it was expected. The problem is that I threw up this morning before drinking any water. It was a brown sludge but I did feel better after. I thought to be on the safe side I might take a couple days off of my fast and have some juice and maybe work my way to solids for a while but I can't keep that down.
I've only had a little bit of juice with some water and threw it up. I tried again and the same thing happened. I've decided to have a couple crackers to see if that works better.
Does anyone know whats going on? and what I should do?
Thank you :)

Why are you on a water fast?
it cleanses your body and restarts your system
Go immediately to your doctor and ask for some help
You should NOT have tried a water fast without a) being very experienced in fasting and b) under a doctor's supervision!! You need to go to a doctor and fess up. Like, asap. If you try to eat without knowing what you're doing you could seriously harm yourself.
PS. Want to cleanse yourself a healthier way? Eat only organic fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts, and legumes for a week. You will feel MUCH better than this is making you feel now. -___-
Blacking out and vomiting can happen during fasting, but these things usually don't occur as early as the 4th day. The fact that this is happening so early may be a sign that your body is not handling the fast well. The vomit during fasting is not usually blood (vomited blood is usually described as looking like coffee grounds), but its not very healthy for you either. Even people who promote fasting suggest that if you can't keep liquids down and your vomiting continues, then your fast should be terminated.
That being said, a fast isn't the best way to cleanse your body, and should never be used as a vehicle for weight loss. You may want to look into alternative options, like the one feanor suggested.
Be very careful! You might want to see a doctor if you are blacking out. Dehydration can be very dangerous, and you can become dehydrated even when drinking a lot of water, if you deplete your electrolytes. Dehydration and loss of electolytes can stop your heart. The other way that electrolytes can be depleted is by drinking too much water with no other minerals.

Dangers of Too Much WaterDon't start drinking an extra gallon of water a day - that can kill you, especially if you are fasting or eating very little. Water taken in must be in balance with body salt - electrolytes. The body needs to maintain salt balance or risk hyponatremia with heart attack and even death. Drinking too much water dilutes the salt in your blood and tissues - and can kill you. Healthy athletes have died from drinking too much plain water and not replacing salt. Dieters should not plunge into drinking gallons of water a day in hopes of burning a few more calories. Drink an extra few glasses, yes. But a gallon is too much.
I have messaged you. Check your mail.
fasts of any kind are nothing but trouble.
unless you're fasting for religious reasons or if you've been advised not to eat by your doctor (they sometimes tell you not to eat 12 hours before a surgery or blood test, etc) then don't fast.
when you finally decide to start eating food again, you'll end up binging. the binge-starve cycle is NOT something you want to get involved with, trust me.
Fasts are total bologne.
Wow...thats crazy dangerous to your health to be running only on water for 4 days. That essentially has brought ur body down to 'starvation mode' where it will begin to digest muscle and tissue in order to keep u conscious.
Running strictly on water for more than a day can be a real problem. Fasting is fine, as long as its done within reason. Its done culturally and in many religions. It can help with regulating ur body's homeostasis, however more than one day is big trouble.
Brown Sludge?? Pick some some food and eat it!!
Dear Anikka_ariella
I know it is difficult to get support on water fasting when you are trying to do something good for yourself... People who don't have the experience, and don't understand it will not help you...
I have found some websites on the internet for you to take a look at. It is always a good idea to do a lot of research on water fasting before attempting to do it. Seems you may be new to this, so I though I would provide some links to help you in your understanding of water fasting...
http://www.falconblanco.com/health/fasting.ht m#References/Links
http://www.healself.org/ The page that you will go to from this link has Doctors who are well trained professionals you can contact to tell them what's going on with you and your reactions on your water fast...
You can email them or call them directly...
All the best to you!
well, aren't you helpful.
ugh...I hate how some people here find it amusing to bring people down with their nasty comments. This site is to help people out not make them feel like completely utter idiots.
Fasts are not bad if supervised by proffesionals. Doing a water fast every once in a couple of months is actually recommended and there has been a lot of health benefits that have been proven coming from one day fasts. I dont recommend them, though...not if they're for more than a day. Not everybody is built the same, and some people response to things differently from you..right now your body is not exactly doing too well with the fast, and like some previously said, you should really consider going to your doctor...as soon as you can and address this issue....consult with him and tell him your motives and why you want to do the fast...maybe he'll have a better way for you to do this, not to mention take care of any underlying health problems your body is facing right now.
I also suggest you stop the fast for a while...give your body more than just a month to get itself back together....
so yea..all in all...visit your doctor, have them check that everything's ok and give you the measures you need to take to fix this...and then let your body get back in shape....work out, eat healthy (organic foods and whole grains are the best to cleanse your system without the need to fast) and you'll see how you'll feel so much better
good luck sweetheart and dont mind the people who dont have anything positive to say.
take care!

well, aren't you helpful.
We are being helpful. We told you to go see a doctor and to stop the water fasting...especially if you are NOT being supervised by a doctor.
If you are waiting for us to tell you that what you are doing is ok, that's not going to happen. This is a website dedicated to being healthy. A 4 day water fast is not healthy....and I'm guessing you are probably a teenager. If you are, then it's REALLY not healthy.
Vomiting can result from an electrolyte imbalance resulting from water intoxication and this is a dangerous, sometimes deadly occurance.
If your fast is not going as expected, I encourage you to see your doctor or a health professional as soon as possible.
Calorie Count supports healthy weight management. Fasting is not a tool for healthy weight management. Under certain circumstances for health or religious reasons our members may choose to fast, but we do not encourage or support the practice except where the fast still meets our guidelines for healthy weight management. There are some fasts where you do take in sufficient calories or some short term fasts that we don't feel are necessarily detrimental to your health; however, most fasts do not follow the Calorie Count guidelines.
This is a great website dedicated to helping people manage their weight in a healthy manner. Did you know that the bare minimum a woman should ever eat is 1200 calories a day? This is a widespread recommendation by the medical community and eating less puts you at risk and should only be done under the supervision of your healthcare provider.
But even 1,200 calories a day may be too little and put you at risk of losing too rapidly. The other main guideline would be to lose 1 - 2 lbs a week which is considered a safe rate of weight loss by the medical community. To lose 1 lb a week, you would try to keep a 500 calorie deficit per day (double that for 2 lbs/week). [you have to cut back 3,500 cals to lose 1 lb; if you divide that over 1 week, that is 500 cals x 7 days = 3,500]
Here's a nice explanation of the starvation mode theory and why it's better to try for a weight loss of 1 - 2 lbs a week...
