is there such a thing as drinking too much water? i go from a liter to almost a gallon of water a day! just curious...
Well, technically, yes, there is such a thing as too much water and "water intoxication" can be fatal, but a gallon isn't too much as far as I know. Certainly one's size, activity level, etc., would be a factor. I know I can drink a gallon without any adverse effects. In fact, I was required to during my last pregnancy.
You can do some online research and find out what the "unsafe" threshold is. Best of luck.
Too much water will flush the electrolytes out of your system, leaving you feeling crappy. So if you start feeling wiped out, drink some juice or gatorade. Otherwise, if you're working out and sweating a lot, hydration is key, so keep it up! ![]()
Yes, I would definatley be living proof that there is such thing as drinking to much water.
In the worst stage of my ED, I was drinking litre after litre EVERY hour. One day, I collapsed on the floor and I woke up in emergency because of a severe electrolyte imbalance and tissue swelling towards my brain.
You have to drink HEAPPS (yes, i mean heaps as in only living on water) for it be dangerous.
Other than that, You should be fine.
If you ever find yourself drinking large amounts of water because you're excessively thirsty for no reason (i.e. it's not hot weather or you're not doing a lot of exercise) and if you find your sleep being disturbed because you need to go to the bathroom all night.... then that can be an early warning sign for Type II Diabetes.
A litre or two of water consumed over the course of a day isn't excessive.
