Water Meter!
Okay, so we have burn meters, and eat meters. But I think a helpful tool would be a Water Meter. It would be a great way for people to work on increasing their water in take and they could keep track on the site! I always find it hard to remember how much water I've drank, so I actually write it down. It would be just as simple to enter the info into the Water Meter =D
So, anyone thing this is a good idea?
Personally, I enter in Water as a food, just as I would anything else. When I go over my food logs, I can see this item and can quickly tally up how many ounces of water I had so far. Also, instead of using the Calorie Count item, I have my own user-created items: "Water (8oz)" and "Water (16oz)" and "Dasani (12oz)" and so on... I can tag these like any other food... I also have similar items for coffee/tea.
I then use the 'grams' from the "Nutrition Report" to compare how much I've consumed for the day to my desired range. Sure, this includes foods, but I believe it gives a more accurate picture than just tracking water. My reasoning is that some foods (like peaches or tomatoes) are fluid-filled, while other foods (like dry cereal) are not. It's important to consider this sort of thing, when assessing hydration, rather than simply water intake.
So I use the 'grams' number as an indicator of how hydrated in general I am. I try to keep this number in a certain range, so that I'm well-hydrated but not water-logged...lol. Knowing that I want to consume a certain amount in grams for the entire day also pushes me to drink more in the beginning of the day...
Honestly, I'm not sure that I would use a water meter, if one was implemented. I am grateful that Calorie Count keeps track of the grams and gives that in the Nutrition Report, where it can be compared from day to day. Knowing the 'grams' consumed per day is a major indicator for me, when it comes to the big picture.
I hope this can help others who want to track water intake! :D
