Can you ever drink too much water?  I try to drink as much of my 8 cups of water a day at work (where we have yummy, clean water!) just in case I don't drink anything at home, but lately I've drinking well over 2 litres a day just out of habit of drinking!  Is there a point where drinking lots of water can have negative effects?

There is but it is ALOT of water.  2-3 liters, even 4 won't hurt you.  Keep on Drinking.  I try to get 3 a day.
i drink about 150 ounces a day. my body loves it, so as long as that's happening, i'm going to keep doing it.
i drink 2 to 3 liters a day and am trying to get to 4

you can cause harm by drinking too much water, you basically have to drink more water than your body can process, which is a LOT and whenever people have done this, it has usually been associated with chugging large amounts as part of frat hazing -- like 2 gallons in less than 5 minutes, kind of thing.  If you're spacing it out throughout the day, you're fine.   :)

good for you for drinking all that water!
I'd say dink as much as possible to keep your body hydrated and it makes oyu think better!!!!

Just be aware that you will be running to the bathroom every 10 minutes........................... :)
Also, make sure you stick with drinking that much on the weekends. I've been falling into this trap where I drink a ton of water during the week because at work, it's right here in a nice little water cooler, but on the weekends, I'll only drink a couple glasses a day. Come Monday, I've gained water weight and I get upset. This cycle stops now!

water is dangerous at amounts close to 3 gallons and over in one day.

it puts major pressure on the brain and internal organ, and you can start to experiance major organ failure.

I drink 3 L of water a day! and its awesome!
Thanks guys! Yeah Christen, I'm trying really hard to maintain the same amount of movement and hydration during the weekends, because that's when I allow myself a little more calories (this way I REALLY know what's going on with my body).

BD, I am SO glad my job allows me to go to the bathroom whenever I need to because I'm going probably between 10-12 times a day now. Fun! :p

Jawild, I'm going to try to take it up to 3L and see what happens.
You can drink too much water and it can actually kill you. Though this is very rare. It's called 'water intoxication'

One good way of making sure you get enough water per day is to carry bottled water with you when you go out anywhere, or bring some to work with you.

Plus, drinking bottled water will allow you to keep track of how much you've had throughout each day.  You can keep track of whether you've had 6 or 8 bottles, etc., and know where you stand as the day goes on.  It's a good referencing tool.
