I know the rule of thumb is to drink lots of water.  However I can't stand it, I have to force myself to drink it.  I was wonder if I could subsitute water with iced tea?  I do sweeten it w/sweet & low and lemon.

Please help!

Generally not... iced tea has both sugar and caffeine in it. Both of which will help you pee more, and not necessarily help you retain the water you need.

Alot of people don't like water, so we generally suggest that they try it chilled (it's better when it's cold), and also that they try it with some lemon, oranges or strawberry slices in it.
SHhhhhhh  I can't ever drink enough so today I got the crystal light packets and use 1/2 to a bottle of water.  I have for the first time ever had enough water for the day!!  shhh  don't tell!!
Im not a water person either so i always get the flavored waters. Like hkellick said "iced tea has both sugar and caffeine in it. Both of which will help you pee more, and not necessarily help you retain the water you need."

I am not a big fan of water either, but I have found that by placing a litre bottle in the freezer for @ 3 hours then taking it out (bang it on the table to break up the ice) it is very good ICE cold!! The colder the water is the better it is I think anyway.
I like drinking water, but once in a while I want some flavor and fizz.  I put about 2 ounces of sugar free fruit juice in a glass and fill it up with cold club soda.

Recently the thought of caffeine causing you to lose water has been declining. Here are some articles:

New Study Debunks Myth That Caffeine Causes Dehydration

"A new study conducted at the University of Connecticut?s Human Performance Laboratory, however, shows that consuming the equivalent of two to four cups of coffee a day causes no more dehydration than drinking water."

Fluid Balance ? Caffeine and Hydration

"In summary, there is much evidence linking high levels of caffeine consumption with increased urine production, but little evidence of a diuretic effect at average levels of consumption. This observation has given rise to the hypothesis, tested recently at Aberdeen University, that daily consumption of caffeine-containing beverages does not result in negative fluid balance."
THANK YOU EVERYONE!  It so great to have support just a click away!
I agree with clairelane.ice cold watre is better to drink because it seems to be better and it fullls you up more.
and seriously.. what's better than ice cold water on a hot summers day?
dggeek, thanks for posting that.  I drink enough water, I just don't drink as much as most people seem to think you need.  Some days, I drink a lot, others, I have none at all and, to quote Monty Python, "I ain't dead yet!"
most stores like wal-mart and kmart make sparkling water with different flavors. they are sugar free and calorie free (and really really cheep) and as far as i know they are perfectly healthy...anybody have any thoughts on them? id like to know if im wrong.
I get the Nestle Pure Life which is just like water except it has yummy natural fruit flavors.  I, too, have problems drinking just plain water.  The only thing NPL has in it is 10 mg of sodium per serving--that's it.
Drinking cold water also helps boost your metabolism because your body has to work to heat the water up to your body temperature vs. drinking room temp water.

I love water... it's my favorite drink so I can't understand how people don't like it. haha

Try squeezing lemon juice in your water... that gives a hint of flavor without the sugars in flavored water.
Well, I am not a big fan of water either and totally can't stand it ice cold.  I set out my "quota" of 16 ounce bottles each morning on my desk and make myself get it all drank before I leave.  That way anything I drink before or after work is a bonus.  Works for me.  Have a real hard time on the weekends getting the water down 'cause I am not as disiplined.

My husband refuses to drink water.  He says fish poop in it.  He does drink it with the crystal light single packs.  I know that is not good but better than coke at at least he is getting liquid in.  He also drinks green tea from tea bags not the mixes.
Fish poop in it? haha I'd be more worried about the level of human fecal matter in tap water.

Buy bottle water if it bothers you that much. haha You can get a case of 32 at Sam's Club for $4.
Oh, we do use bottled water.  I would go without drinking at all rather than drink tap water.  I wouldn't care what the cost of bottled.  have cases of it everywhere.  But he still says that.  That's just something he always says for an excuse.

I just have a hard time drinking anything so it really isn't just water for me.  I make myself drink 6 or more bottles a day plus my 16 ounces of green tea each morning and my quart of milk.  On days I work, I usually get 10 bottles of water, but I still hate it.
I know everybody said sparkling water but I am a fan of seltzer when I want sometihng that's more similar to soda. I love the lemon lime and mandarin orange flavors and you can get the 1 liter bottle--sometimes for me it breaks up the monotony of water and I myself love water with a sickness! I think I help keep POland Spring in business!Even before I even started counting calories I was drinking at least the 1.5 liter bottle every day. Or limti yourself to 1 iced tea as a break--I am triyng to break my Diet Coke habit as my afternoon pick up and I do like Dt Snapple Iced Tea as something flavored. Good luck and try throwing lemons in your water--always a good standby that is refreshing!
i don't know if this is true or not but i heard it somewhere and thought i would pass it along...i heard that drinking very very cold water can actually numb a nerver in your stomach that causes you to feel hungry. that way you feel fuller longer because not only do you have the water to fill you up but you don't have that hungry feeling for a while.
I dunno. The only thing about drinking very cold water is what I said a few posts up... it helps your metabolism because your body has to work harder to heat the water up to your body temp.
I like water if it is REALLY SUPER cold!!!  My main problem is that I am totally hooked to carbonation!  I drink club soda, or unsweetened flavored carbonated water.  I drink about a gallon of water a day, but also drink carbonated water too!  I'm probably doing something really bad by doing that, but yum!  lol
