I'm only guessing about the hot/cold drink thing is maybe because it's warm that people like it?

As for flavoured water... from a water point of view, water is water, so yes it's just as good. BUT it all depends on what its flavoured with. I have yet to find a manufactured one that doesn't contain all kinds of stuff (usually sweetener) that I really don't want. So I just water down juice.

The hot/cold thing is probably just personal preference.

As for the flavoured water: It's not as good as plain water, but if you need some flavour to it, it's not really going to do any harm.

For most people, warm liquids help them feel fuller & satisfied [ie. drinking chicken broth, having hot tea, etc]
The warm water with lemon is just a variation of that.

& by flavored water, do you mean the kind that's sweetened? because if so, there's artificial sweeteners in there, which aren't ideal. But if it's between drinking no water & only drinking flavored water, I still think drinking flavored water is better.

oh yeah, i mean the flavored water with artifical sweetners. i always pictured flavored water to be worse than regualar water but better than diet soda. does that seem accurate?

That's generally accurate, yeah, although they don't differ by too much. You'll have to look at the actual water you're drinking, but in general diet soda has more acid & of course, artificial coloring. Also caffeine if it's not a caffeine-free soda.

Maybe you could try cutting the flavored water with actual water? Like have a glass of half flavored & half plain water. You'll still get some taste but you'll be getting more plain water too.

Something you could try that we sell at the store I work at is called sweet leaf stevia (i think thats how its spelled)  Its a sweetener thats made from a plant, not sugar.  At least here, you can buy it in pill or liquid form, and a few drops in water and you have flavored water!  They have all kinds of flavors, rootbeer, chocolate, raspberry, lemon.  Lots of other ones, I just can't think of them.  Its a little expensive, but a little goes a long way!  And it has no calories, no harmful stuff at all!  Its basically just the plant and distilled water, I think, plus the flavoring.

I drink my water both ways.  I either want it ice cold or hot.  If its from my tap at home, then it has to be hot.  We live extreamly close to the Arkansas river.  If the river level raises at all, whether it floods or not, we are likely to have brown water.  So until I can afford to buy a purifier, everything we drink from the tap gets boiled.

Bottled water has to be extreamly cold simply because from the time I was an infant, I had problems drinking water that was room temp.  I get choked on it easily.

My way around  having to have my bottled water ice cold, is to add a teaspoon or two of lemon juice.  I don't add sweetened lemon crap.  I don't use crystal light.  I use lemon juice.  Some how it stops my gag reflex as well as the corn syrup my mother put in my bottle when I was little.   It was the doctors idea, go figure.

But, then I have also been known to add a few drops of unsweetened apple juice or peach juice.  Whatever i have handy that keeps the calories down and lets me drink water without gagging.

I have yet to figure that out either.  Its not about the taste of water.  Its more about how thin it is.  Somehow adding some sort of juice to it gives it just enough body I can drink it.  I don't know why it happens that way, it just does.

I drink a lot of water all day, and sometimes I just want to mix it up.  I keep lemon and lime juice in the fridge all the time, and usually I'll add a splash of one of those to my water.  If I want more flavor, or more sweetness, I'll use about an ounce of pure cranberry or pomegranate juice in a pint of water.

I think the hot water thing is used almost like an appetite suppressant.  (People drink it to stave off cravings.)
