Watermelon

I keep finding different answers to this question.  I thought watermelon (all melons) were low in carbs.   But on this site it says that it is high in carbs.  Does anyone know what fruits are low in carbs?

The carbs in fruit come from the natural sugar, and berries typically have the lowest sugar content of fruits.  I personally prefer strawberries and raspberries.

Here's a more extensive list.

strawberries. thats all i can think of right now

That's the list that I was going off of and it says that watermelon has low to medium carbs.  Well, on this website I put in 2 cups of watermelon (chunks) and it says that there is 27 grams of carbs.  That's a lot to me.

It would probably be better to estimate nutritional information by weight than a meausuring cup.  The amount of watermelon you're talking about will vary depending on the size of the chunks you're using.

And as for lists, they are typically rating "high/low carbs" based on the amount of carbs per ounce or 100 grams.  It depends on what standard they are using (if any at all), on whether or not their classification is correct.

Why does 27 grams of carbs seem high to you?  Are you on a specific low-carb diet that has targets defined?

berries are lower in carbs because they have a sugar alcohol which makes them taste sweet, but not processed by our bodies like sugar.  Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, ect.  Keep in mind that fruit tends to have more fiber, which can also be calculated as a carbohydrate.
