wats wrong with bread?!
hi everyone, so my question is why bread is so frowned upon when it comes to healthy eating
i love bread just simple plain bread, i dont add anything to it, like mayonaise or butter or anything, and i find it satisfying because its tasty, and doesnt contain many calories.
so my question is wats wrong with bread and while on the subject is flour very bad for you.
i apologize in advance if this is a stupid question.
There is nothing wrong with bread, and flour is not bad for you. Even white bread is ok in moderation. As gi-jane usually says *clears throat "There are no bad foods, just bad diets."

thanks for the quick reply, but i thought that since theres no fat/protein in it, that i would end up eating too much of it very easily, as in my body wouldn't feel satisfied and id over-snack on it, any opinions?
Everything is fine in moderation. However... it's spelled "What's". Thanks.
A good bread will have some fat and protein in it. They come from the grains the bread was made from.
i normally dont get bread with seeds of any kinda in it jus very basic simple bread but thanks anyways, something to be wary of.
Yumm...bread... =)
I eat bread every day. Toast with breakfast or sandwiches. But I try to make it one or the other. I never have toast and sandwiches in the same day. Seems like a lot of calories for something that really doesn't like anything.
There is nothing wrong with bread. You've probably heard that idea from the low-carb fanatics (and there is nothing wrong with carbs anyway). Either that or it could be the fact that many people find it hard not to overeat bread; eat it with high-calorie toppings; or the fact that while white bread isn't bad for you, it's not very nutrient-dense either.
If you're worried about how full you will be after eating it, pick a wholegrain, wholemeal, rye or sprouted grain variety - the fibre and protein will keep you fuller for longer.
If you're not worried, then it's fine to eat.
There is nothing wrong with bread. However the quality of bread is important. I would liken white bread to that of sugar. It has calories but really no nutritional value. Bread should be made from a whole grain flour not enriched or bleached white flour. This is because breads made with white flour have had all the fiber and nutrients removed.
I take it a step further and avoid breads that are made with HFCS. Many high quality bread companies are no longer using HFCS. I personally like Ezekiel 4:9 bread. It is made with several grains as well as sprouted grains. It is around 90 calories per serving with 6 grams of fiber.
Stay away from "enriched" anything. Bread itself is not bad at all, it just depends on the bread. Personally, I prefer wheat bread or rye or this kind my mother-in-law gets with little chunks of nuts made inside. :) Go ahead and eat some, just keep in mind that each slice is usually over 100 calories.

If you are going to say that something shouldn't be eaten, at least post the reasoning behind it. ![]()

so thats good news for me then and my love of bread, but a 100 calories a slice it is fairly energy rich but saying that its better than a lot of foods out there soooo great!
There is nothing wrong with bread at all.
That said, take a slice of processed bread and a slice of homemade bread from a bakery, put them each in plastic bag and leave them on the counter. See how long they take to go mouldy.
Processed bread is full of chemicals to preserve it. You really don't need those in your body.
It is very easy to make your own fresh bread and you ca add your favourite whle grains to the recipe. Nothing like the smell of freshly baking bread in your home.
so many replies i didnt read them all so sorry if this was already said.
to make (white) bread theres strong white flour, sugar, yeast, butter and milk/water. I suppose too much means more fat and more sugar. So its possibly seen to be better to eat wholemeal and why bread is considered to be bad

Lord people can be so rude on here sometimes! I'm sorry for not giving a reason, I was in a bit of a hurry... though anyone can google the reasons not to. In general, many find it to not really be all that healthy for you.
Here is a link to a site that says the exact same thing that most sites say about this topic: http://www.articledashboard.com/Article/Enric hed-Foods-Are-Bad-For-Your-Health/1012832
Please, enlighten yourself.
Okay, but that link doesn't say anything to indicate that "enriched wheat flour" is worse than "wheat flour". It's simply wheat flour with vitamins added. Neither is remotely as good as "whole wheat flour" so it makes more sense to look for the whole wheat flour rather than avoiding the enriched wheat flour.
Depends. Lifestyle makes a difference...ever been to France, they look at white bread a little differently than here in NA, where white bread is considered evil. It's all in the context. Consuming white bread in a diet that's already high in processed and fast food might not be a good idea, it's just adding to a higher percentage of nutritionally poor foods.
