I want to make some cookies, is it okay to put wax paper in the oven?

I've heard that cooking quality parchment paper is better for that.

According to this link, wax paper will smoke when trying to bake cookies on it:

I am not sure about the wax paper but you can get parchment paper in the same area you got the wax paper and it is made to go in the oven. I use it all the time for my cookies (no sticking or mess to clean). I also use it for anything I am baking like meats, squash, veggies, etc.
Wax melts - dont do it unless it specifically says okay for baking which I dont imagine it does and it may even warn you not to use it that way.

My oldest daughter lives with a chef - graduated from the Scottsdale Culinary Institute and sometimes when he's baked over at our house he's used wax paper in the oven -- maybe what he was baking was on lower heat but I had never seen it used that way.

Personally I like baking stones for cookies.  They don't stick and they don't burn and they just bake better IMHO.

According to the Reynold's website, you can cut out the paper and use it as a liner for cakes, etc. --basically anything in which the food completely covers the paper. Cookies are a no-no. Never expose the paper directly to the oven's heat. Parchment paper is great, though.
I use waxpaper only as my mother did, in the bottom of cake pans.

For cookies I LOVE my SILPAT.  It was around $20 and from France and I first saw them on TV.  Put it on your cookie sheet and use over and over and cookie just lift right off.
Parchment paper is the best!! I used some waxed paper instead the other day when I was out of foil and parchment paper, and yeah, it stuck to the pan.
I try not to eat wax paper very often. Oh wait, you mean cooking on it? My bad...

Haha nunofreak =P

Made me laugh...

but anyways, no experience with wax paper..sorry =\
