It's all about pain tolerance my dear. I happen to be pro-waxing. Legs and brazilian. (Because I HATE shaving "down there". The legs take patience, and if you've got no pain tolerance than I wouldn't suggest it, however, I would compare leg waxing to a sunburn that lasts about 10 seconds.

So my advice: try it! Only needs to be done every two- three weeks and it will make you smoother than any razer ever could.

I love waxing my legs.  The hair is softer and less noticable as well.  The only downfall I have found is the cost.  But seek out your local beauty college, they tend to be about half the price of a salon and do a great job.

I want to wax my legs as well.  I've had it done and the pain is not too bad.  BUT, I can never do it myself athome.  Does anyone know of any brands that work well?

how much is cost....if i may ask. i have no problem with pain...so im not worried about that. any more responceswould be great. maybe where u go or i agree wirh alle hwat home product work 4 u....

I'm a big fan of MOOM.  It's a sugaring solution rather than a wax, so it has a couple of benefits:  (1) it's water soluble, so it cleans up easily; and (2) it doesn't also remove the top layer of your skin, which hard waxes have a tendency to do.  You can get a huge jar for around $50 on Amazon.

heres the website 4 the MOOM:

Oh man! That looks nice, and sooooo cheap. A lot cheaper than buying the retarded expensive razors and shaving cream.

I think I'm going to order some right now.

yes this does look wonderful....hhhmmmmm. lysistrta, how many uses do u get out of one jar? how long does it last 4 u?

Oh gosh, well, I only do brazillian waxing and I do it about every 4-5 weeks, and the big jar has lasted at least 8 months.  You really need very, very little.  Seriously, it's such awesome stuff.

So, umm.. personal question - do you do the brazillian yourself or do you have someone help?  Is it hard to do it yourself?

Another alternatibve would be epilating for legs...although it is pain tolerance, it gets easier after the first few times:)

Want to try brazilian...but wow :O

I was waxing myself, but it's so time consuming doing it yourself and can be a little tricky too in places. I go to the salon to get it done and I don't find it uncomfortable at all, but I've been doing it for years.

for the ppl that go to the salon, how much does it cost u?

I pay £35 for under-arms, legs, and la bush. Kiss

Waxing is so much easier. You dont have to think about shaving all the time. I have very dark and strong hair so I can only go 2-3 days w/o having to shave again. Thats why I love waxing so much. My friend can go 3 weeks w/o shaving so when she waxes it lasts a REALLY long time for her.

For my legs, bikini and under arms i pay $80 (Canadian) which is a little expensive. My waxing lady is in a "ricj" neighbourhood so she can hike up her fees.

But waxing is so worth it!
Yeah, I do it myself.  Can't lie, it isn't pleasant, but you get used to it after a few times.  And yes, some parts do get a little tricky (naked waxy twister, anyone?), but I think eventually you figure out a system of mirrors and poses that works.  ;-)

When I used to go to the salon I paid $50 a visit.  The lady would go to town with the tweezers and everything ... much more detail-oriented than I am!  Oh, and it takes generally 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how careful they're being.

Definitely do not try to do the brazillian yourself the first time!  The first time or two is the worst, pain-wise, plus there's the part about not knowing what to expect.  Pay a professional to do it, see if you like it, and think about if you're brave enough to try it at home, bearing in mind that you don't want to start unless you plan to finish.  ;-)

ok thanks everybody/

Waxing never worked too well for me at home, & I can't afford the salon. But I hate shaving...

So, Veet all the way. =]

I have a question for all you brazillian wax users:

Do you apply it with strips, or how? And is it as effective as the ready-to-use strips (Nair, Sally Hansen) that come in boxes?
Yes, muslin strips.  They work very well.  Applying a little baby powder first dries out some of the oils and helps the wax stick.  I personally have never found the ready-to-use strips very effective and I would never trust them for a brazillian.
