Way to keep from tasting/nibbling when you cook for others/parties

Quote  |  Reply

I had to share this!  I needed to bake brownies to bring to work tomorrow and tasting/eating batter is a huge problem for me.  I can resist the baked brownies but have serious probs w batter while baking.  Coincidentally, I am in the process of using Whitestrips to whiten my teeth and today I had the strips on when I went to make the brownies and completely resisted the batter!  (you can't eat anything when you have the bleach strips on)

So if you are whitening your teeth and have to cook high-fat foods for other people try wearing the strips while you cook to keep from nibbling.  Get two things done at once and save calories!  Weird but oddly effective.  I'm also thinking that wearing my night guard while cooking might work when I finish with the whitestrips in 2 wks.

Thanks so much for posting this. I've been looking for ideas because I work in my college's cafeteria, usually at the fryers or making the mashed potatoes (with full-fat butter and half-and-half, eek!).

It's so tempting when I switch out the old fries for new fries to eat a bunch of the now-a-bit-cold fries, or to grab a huge spoonful of mashed potatoes, or to take home the cookies that are going to spoil over the weekend (the big ones about the size of a small plate)...

I think they might find it a little strange if I wear whitestrips while working, but it sure has me thinking...what about gum or something? I don't eat anything if my gum still has flavor.

Yes! I keep gum at work for that very reason. I don't work with food, but there are frequently leftovers from catered meetings around. It way too easy to just grab a cookie or a handful of chips when I run to the kitchen to refill my water. As long as there is a piece of gum in my mouth, though, I can't put anything else in there. Lately I've been finding I don't even need the gum - maybe I'm finally developing some good habits! Goodness knows I have enough bad ones ;)
