The way water weight makes you LOOK

Quote  |  Reply
Does anyone else ever experience this?

When I'm retaining water, e. g., right before TOTM, my body looks like a different person's entirely.  While normally I am pretty lean, muscular, and skinny, when I have water retention, my stomach bloops out, I have more of a muffin top, and my boobs get bigger (sorry for the TMI.)  This happens to me every month, so I know I should expect it, but it freaks me out every time!  I get so scared I have gained weight, and I end up hating my body.  I guess I just need some reassurance that in a few days, I'll go back to looking how I usually do...

I've found that Midol does wonders for me in regard to water retention.
I'll have to try that, thanks.  I'm desperate here! :D
Never ever. Phft. I've never even tried Midol since I don't need it. I'm on the side of the guys that call bs. My periods are three to four days max. Light. No cramps. No worries. No bloating. No cravings.... Not that I don't believe women think they have these things. I honestly believe some women give them to themselves. Due to their thought process/what they've been told.

You wanna see water retention's try pregnancy. Not Poor Me Syndrome.
Well, enchantingimage, I'm glad to know that you don't suffer from these symptoms, but some people do, including myself.  If you think it's all in my head, then why, in the week before my period, do my feet and hands often swell up like water balloons?  Why do I develop cankles and find it painful to walk?  Why does my weight shoot up 2-8 lbs and then go back down after it's over?  I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say in your post, but I don't think it's fair to belittle my innocent statement.

That's interesting.  My wife never complained of anything of the sort until carrying our first child.  That wasn't up until the last couple months of pregnancy.

No complaints thereafter of swelling ect ect.

Your symptoms sound like melodramatic depression. Perhaps, you should treat the melodrama.
I don't think PMS is all in your head.  While I don't suffer from it anymore (I have an IUD in and rarely have a period) I used to get those syptoms right before having my period.  Mood Swings, Bloated Stomach, Aching lower back and even nausea sometimes.  I had a friend who some months missed school because she was so sick from PMS.  It's definitly real.  I can attest to Midol.  I always felt better within a half hour after taking it.  Helped me mostly with the aches but it probably would help with cramps and bloating too.

EnchantingImage: I'm glad you feel so great about yourself but this is not the first time you sounded so rude when replying to someone's post.  I don't know if you are intentionally being mean, but just so you know you sound really rude.  I understand we all have different opinions but maybe you should reread your posts before you send them and try to understand how the person on the receiving end of your self-righteous advice would feel.
I am not sure why people are getting so annoyed, but she is only talking about the way her body acts. In no way is she using this as n excuse for unhealthy behaviour or fishing for compliments or whatever bad behaviour that makes it seem like she deserves a spanking (which unfortunately is not a remedy for water retention). Try drinking some caffeine (which is the diurectic in Midol).
wow are these people rude or what. pms is different for everyone and i for one never in my life want to hear a man telling me how i do or do not feel. ug..i have it bad too so i understand where your coming from ratinhat. my periods are 5 days, sometimes so heavy i can not stand or i will bleed through anything. my cramps double me over and i can not wear my jeans that week due to bloating. don't let anyone tell you how you feel during! that would be like someone from this site who lost 5 pounds this week telling them they are pigs because they only lost 2 lbs instead of 5. all our bodies are different!
Avasmon: Of course, you do. Be direct. You already have an issue with me. " Not the first time " that I was so rude. The first time you considered me rude was when I responded to your post. Don't speak as if at random. You have an issue with me because I told you that you should be losing weight for yourself. Not a man. I suggested moving on with your life, since your ex has moved on with his life. And you're a married woman. It doesn't make sense to be losing weight for your ex ( first ) lover or not. Or current man for that matter. It's something that you should do for yourself. I suggest being an adult and getting to the core of your issue with me. Don't candy coat it. Or don't read my post if it hurts your feelings so much. You can take my post as positively or negativly as you like. There is no tone using text.

Moving on: I stand behind my post. If someone has a negative thought process, it shows in their life. Perhaps, Midol will really help her with aches and pains. See a doctor if Midol isn't working. I seriously would. I recall water rentention in pregnancy quite well. If you have it to that degree perhaps you should see a doctor. Because it's not normal. No matter how many woman want to say it's normal to have a horrible period. It's really not.

don't you get dizzy looking down on others?

I wouldn't tell her how she feels. I was simply stating my opinion on why she felt that way as a fact. Anyone here can see the difference betweeen fact and opinion.  A lot of women experience depression.

A lot of men experience depression too.
suamere, its just that i feel that by calling it melodrama you imply that shes making it up or making it out to be more than it is. depression is quite different and quite real. you could be right, these women may be depressed (myself included) but there is nothing melodramatic about it.

I wasn't looking for an arguement. Just stating my opinion on why she felt that way as a fact. Women converse with eachother different, I see.

Great quote there, EnchantingImage. It's nice when quotes are used when well suited for different situations. That was a great example.
WOW enchantingimage, just get over it, you made your opinion known, so let it go.  There's no sense arguing...

ANYWAYS

I have HORRIBLE periods (I'm sure I'll hear how it's all in my head now =P) but yes, I have the worst cramps in the world.  My friend and I just refer to them as cramps from hell (she has it too...maybe it's a mass hysteria =P).  Sometimes it gets so bad I can't move or I have to lay down wherever I am, sometimes even on the floor =/.  Midol doesn't work for me though, nothing with acetaminophen does.  Ibuprofen works wonders for me, but I know Midol works for my stepsister though.  Everyone's body is different.  If Midol doesn't help you, I'd suggest something with ibuprofen.

WOW, Defle. Nice of you to get over it yourself by bringing it back up. That had already been dropped from the looks of it. There was no arguement just posts and relies to post directed towards Enchanting of her part.

Also, I hear aleve is good since it's one pill for a 24 hour time frame. Just a suggestion.
I used to be on rx meds because of my cramps :/ and I didn't make them up lmao.

When I see people bitching at someone else's innocent conversational comment, it makes me scared to post :(  Please stop being mean.

rx =  Prescription?  Correct?

If so, what sort of prescription meds?

Also, if it's just water retention aren't their water pills. That just make you urinate a lot. Therefore, minimizing the problem completely.
I would like to get my 2 cents in too!!!   Who is "enchantingimage"??  Do you have ANY medical background at all???  I am a RN, and "horrible periods" are VERY common.  ANY medical OBGYN book will tell you that water retention during menstrating is NORMAL.  Not everyone has the symptom, but it is NORMAL.  So don't knock women who have it, she was just posting her symptoms.  Get over it and why so rude????  It's my TTOM too, and I gained 3.5 lbs of water weight, and by day two, I was down 4.5lbs, so don't tell ME it isn't NORMAL!!!!
