Weaning from breastfeeding, feel horrible :(
I am weaning after my third bout of mastitis and I feel like crap. I am already on antibiotics but I feel lightheaded and sick. My boobs hurts so bad that I keep having to pump, which means they wont stop making breast milk. I tried cabbage leaves but that was gross and I smelled like cabbage. Any advice? How long is this going to last?
Were you told why you got mastisis. I was always told that it was from not nursing often enough and not on demand. I would think the worst thing to do is try to wean because your ducts can be clogged and infected again. Also, even formula feeding moms get mastisis if they try to make the move to formual too quickly.
Good luck. I took me only a few weeks to stop producting breastmilk but my DS was 3years 8Months old when he stopped nursing.
HTH.

I feel for you, I had mastitis with my youngest and it's no fun!
Are you weaning because you've had 3 bouts in a row or for another reason?
Continue to pump, massage the spot where you have it (even though it hurts like a mother it'll help). Try cold packs, baths, hot water bottles, and of course Tylenol!!
I also heard peppermint tea helps lower milk supply and cold medication but if you don't have a cold that probably isn't good :(
I tried to just quit breastfeeding and it was horrible! I know exactly what you are talking about! My breasts were actually hot to the touch, and red! The doctor told me the easiest thing to do is to wean. Let me tell you, it was the best decision I ever made. I had no pain whatsoever. It took about 2 months total, but it was easy easy easy. I just started by replacing 1 feeding a day with formula. Before I knew it I was all dried up! The other thing my doctor told me was great about weaing is your breasts are much less likey to "deflate" if you do it slowly. Good luck.

Did it work?? This is my third so I can't imagine my breasts not deflating, last time they looked like tube socks with a bean bag at the bottom. ![]()
a bit of advice- most docs know diddly-squat about breastfeeding. ask to speak to their lactation consultant. it is your choice to wean if that's what you want, and she can help you with that.
