What to wear while working out?
Hi everybody,
I need some new cheap, but good work out gear, including:
*tennis shoes
*sports bra
*top (maybe)
*bottoms
What do you usually wear when you work out?
Where should I go to buy these things?
What would you recommend?
Is there anything else I need?
I work out on the cardio machines at my gym, and I usually wear basketball shorts and a tee, but it's not working out so well.
Thanks!

hi meg,
now is a good time to pick up some workout gear as a lot of stuff is on clearance. first off you will want to invest in a sports bra -- do not skimp on this one. if you are looking into tops -- i reccomend adidas climacool. their tennis line is great for cardio, very stylish and wicks the sweat right off of you. i have tended to stay awa from reebok and champion (fits wierd on me aka clings to my fat!!! ) lines for runners. bottoms -- just get any pair of spandex shorts, they wll stay out of your way. i am thinking of getting me some under armour but i think that's just because i love their commercials so much hahha
i can't reccomend stores per se as i am in canada. i've gotten stuff from the nike and adidas stores as well as lululemon and running room. another good bet is to check out the athletic wear of a department store, you will find all the brands in one place and probably on sale too.
hope this helps!!
DEFINITELY get moisture wicking fabrics! When I started working out a few months ago I just was in cotton tanks and shorts. I found a few Under Armour tanks on clearance at Sports Chalet and grabbed them - it totally makes a difference. I hate working out in sweaty wet clothing and while it still does get damp, it's nothing like cotton. You don't necessarily need to get Under Armour - it's pretty expensive but totally worth it - Target has some stuff by Champion called C9 that also has those fabrics. Or check out discount stores like Ross or Marshalls, I've found Nike Duo Dry sports bras there for like $10. I would highly highly recommend pants/shorts with the same fabrics because seeing sweat all over your legs/butt/crotch really is kinda gross :) I LOVE my Lululemon Athletica Groove pants but they are waaay expensive - $95 but they'll tailor them for you. I think I saw the Target Champion line have the same kind of fabric. So look around at whatever clothing stores you shop at and see what they have, get a piece or two here and there and see what you like. But if you can splurge on a few good pieces of clothing, definitely do it. It lasts a lot longer than the cheaper stuff and you'll be more comfortable (I'm just finding that out after buying too much cheap stuff at Wal-mart and hating how it fits and clings when you sweat).
As for shoes, there is a thread over in Fitness I think that has a topic on it. Be prepared to spend some money because you should NOT be working out in cheap-o shoes. Quality stuff really does make a difference.
You can buy the clothing anywhere, like I mentioned above. Check out sports stores because you can usually find some good clearance items. For shoes, go get fitted at a specialty store like New Balance or Nike or something. Never thought I'd need anything like that since I only work out for my well-being, not an athlete or anything, but it really doesn't matter. Comfort and proper fitting of your shoes is totally crucial to your workout. My feet have never been so comfortable during a workout as they are now! :)
Good luck! Let me know if you need any other recommedations.
