Wearing the same clothes size as i did 75lbs ago...

Quote  |  Reply

I used to weigh 235lbs, 5'4  (about 4 years ago - 13yrs old)

But for the past 3 years, i have been fluctating between 174 and 150

The weird thing is that... when i was 235lbs and 5'4, i wore a size 16-18.

But now, even when i was at 150lbs 5'6, i wore a size 14-16.

Is this normal?.. or do i have freakishly big bones or something, because most people on here at my height and weight wear sizes <12.

hmmm

It's because you've grown.  Four years ago you were 13 years old.  You're 17 now.  You've grown taller and wider.

you might just have a small frame and/or not a lot of muscle weight

I wore a size 12 at 5'7 170lbs (3 years ago).  Different people have different builds.  I know people who weigh much less than me, but have bigger pant sizes.  It's probably because I have a large bone structure, I had a good amount of muscle mass, and I have a flat sad pancake butt and boy hips.

So you are asking if it is normal?

Yes definately.  Everyone is built different.  Your body has changed since you were 13.  Your bones are likely larger, you probably have more muscle.  You may also have a more of a butt or a thick waist which is why you are a size up.

Jeans are made different to.  Old Navy Jeans have waayy more stretch than say, Levis.  You may be a size 12 in one brand and a 14 or 16 in another.  You really cant use pant size as a scale.

I'm 5'7 and I weigh 148, I wear like a size 8-10 and I'm pear-shaped lol. Weird.

my size 12s were tight at 168, and i'm 5'8".  i just refused to buy bigger clothes.  the need for 14 was part of what kicked my ass to lose weight.

i can wear a size 6 now, but i still have size 12 shorts that i wear with a belt.  sizes aren't all that objective.

I'm 5'4" and i was a 14/16 when i was around 170 so that seems pretty normal to me.  I found when i lost weight my size didn't change drastically although if i added exercise it did.  Just by exercising more i went down almost two sizes while only losing about five pounds, although i had not really changed in size at all during the twenty pounds i lost before that.  I think converting fat to muscle really makes you shrink as far as inches go so you both see a bigger difference in the mirror, and also find clothes fitting much differently.

Well you've grown & gone through puberty, plus it's probably just your frame and body type. My mom is 5'8" and about 150 pounds and a size 10/12, yet she looks thinnner than that.

Clothing manufacturers play with sizes so much that at any one time I can "fit" into about a 3 size range, depending on cut and manufacturer.  It drives my husband crazy when I go into the fitting room with 3 sizes of the same dress, because who knows?

But more importantly to your situation, sizes are proportional to height.  So, if you are 2 inches taller, you will look less "heavy" at the same clothes size because it looks more balanced.  Think of how your shadow looks thinner when it is longer in the evening that when it is shorter in the middle of the day.

So, a fit, trim 6 foot tall woman might be a size 12, while a fit, trim 5 foot tall woman might be a size 2 -- but both would look "slim".
