wedding favor help!

Quote  |  Reply

I need your opinions. What would you rather get as a wedding favor:

1- a boxed cupcake

2- some sort of serving item (dish, bowl, platter, cake server, etc).

Currently arguing w/ my mother about this so just wanted to see what people would actually prefer... thanks!!!

Cupcake....for sure.

"Some sort of serving item.." Not everone has the same taste...and drunk people love cake.

Congrats.

Smilecupcake  yummy !

but you can give nice little candles in a cute little bag really cheap off eBay i got 100 for £5 from hong kong  yay

gonna dress them with a cute butterfly

A boxed cupcake.

Is there going to be a wedding cake?  If so, a cupcake seems redundant.

I agree on the serving item and not everyone having the same taste, though.

If it's just a choice between the two, I'd rather have the nice cupcake, but the best favor I got at a wedding was a small box of chocolate truffles...mmm....chocolate....

Cupcake does sound redundant; one wedding I went to had M&M with the faces of the wife and groom. After the wedding was over you had a choice keep the small bag or eat it.Cool

I agree, edibles are always a great idea - no clutter and no feeling bad about not knowing where to store the item or feel bad about throwing it away.  I cringe everytime I'm cleaning up and I throw away something I've received from a wedding.

We are doing a candy box of a truffle and a fudge from a local chocolate place.

When deciding on favors (since most non-edibles are personalized), I tend to think "if this had someone else's name/wedding date on it, would I want to keep it?"

Pint glasses? Yes.

Picture frame with the couple's name on it, and whatever design they chose? Probably not.

Cupcake for sure. If you can get the design to match your wedding cake then all the better.

I had carmel apples as my wedding favor since I had a Fall wedding. Everyone loved them and they were super affordable.

Cupcake.

I gave out Christmas tree ornaments, and most of the people there didn't understand they were supposed to take one, so it was pretty pointless.  I wish I wouldn't have wasted money on that.  If I had a time machine, I probably wouldn't have had favors at all.

We (the Mrs. and I) gave simple small ice cream scoops as our wedding favor (i.e., a serving item).  We figured that it wasn't a fancy serving item that one would show off or display, but it is a little useful token, which hopefully won't just be thrown away, and may remind our loved ones that celebrated with us of our wedding.  I think (hope) that it is hard to say "that ice cream scoop just doesn't match my tastes."

Plus, anyone who really REALLY knows the Mrs and I, know that we LOVE ice cream (hence my membership to this website).

If there is something like that (e.g,. a spatula if you love pancakes, measuring cups if you love baking, garlic press if you love garlic, corkscrew if you love wine, etc...), that reminds people of you, and isn't really a show piece, it might be cute.

p.s.  we did NOT have them engraved, in case anyone was wondering.

Yup, cupcake. I far prefer edible gifts, because anything else just adds to the clutter.

definitely a cupcake

I hate getting things like serving items - I usually throw them out and then feel guilty that the bride and groom wasted their money on it just for me (and most others) to throw it away.

edit to add: I went to a wedding with caramel apples and candy apples as the favor and it was awesome - probably my favorite favor ever.

I don't think the cupcake is redundant if you have cake.  I rarely eat cake at a wedding because by that point I'm dancing but i almost always eat the edible favor before I get home or back to the hotel : )

great thanks for the feedback all.

Boxed cupcake is a very cool idea, and I like the comment one person put about matching with the cake!

We did the MM thing at my moms wedding and it also was a big hit.  Suprisingly it came in her wedding colors which dont judge me it was her wedding was teal, lavendar, and brown!

Actual items tend to get tossed after awhile and end up costing a lot more.  Splurge the money more on details important to you, you are already paying enough to have people witness YOUR day!

Congrats by the way

I'd go with the cupcake definitely!

My wedding was just before Valentine's day, so I took the Hershey's kisses with cherries in them, put them in a little tule bag (tule [pronounced "Tool," not "Tull"] is the fabric that looks like netting for you non-fabric experts out there), wrapped it with ribbon and put little "love coupons" that I had made on them. (Good for one dance with the bride or groom, etc)

1- a boxed cupcake

Congratulations!

I was going to say the service item because it was actually something, but after reading what everyone else wrote, and realizing how much junk accumulates, I now say the cupcake or something similar.  When I got married 20 years ago, noone gave favors.  If they did, it was something small like Jordon almonds wrapped in tule and tied with a ribbon.

Recently, at a wedding, I got a small box of candy like Reeses cups, Rolos, Kisses.  It was not expensive, but classic---the favorite candies of the couple.

That's too adorable/sweet. Love it! I wonder how many people saved the little coupon/paper thing like with fortune cookies.

Surprisingly (to me anyway), many did. My wedding was 2 years ago and I still have people come up to me and tell me how cute they were and how they saved them. One man even carries one in his wallet!

I planned my wedding by myself in 3 months and on a tight budget. It surprised me that the things that were the biggest hits were the things I made myself for cheap!

Love the cupcake idea.  Something edible gets my vote because, like so many others, I feel guilty when I (inevitably) throw away/give to charity/regift a wedding favour.

My cousin did something kind of cute.  She had a white plastic spoon and three Hershey's kisses.  It was tied with tulle (sp? sorry) with a little note that read:

A spoonful of kisses from the new Mr. and Mrs.

I thought it was sweet, but what do I know?  It was the 80's and I had huge hair and bad makeup.  Laughing

Congrats and best wishes on your upcoming nuptials.
