How much would a 2 week forced rest set me back?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm going to have a medical procedure this week, and I won't be able to exercise for about 2 weeks according to the doctor. She wants me on bed rest throughout the weekend (the procedure will be done on Thursday) and then next week I should be allowed to resume my work/study life, but she says I can't exercise still.

My question is... Am I inevitably going to lose what little muscle I may have in that time frame?

Since doing the 30 day shred, and starting Cardio Max and Power Sculpt... I have seen a huge improvement in how toned my arms and legs look... And I really would hate to throw it all away. Or am I worrying over nothing?

I think you've got your priorities wrong.....  You're going to go through a medical procedure and that should be your top priority for the moment.... following your doctor's instructions, paying attention to recovery.  Vanity has to take a back seat for the time being.

When you think of how much longer your recovery could take if you weren't in as good shape as you are you've really gained a lot of time which you can now use to rest as per your doctor's orders.  It really won't take you too long as long as you pay attention to your body and don't rush to be back in tip top shape.

I guess... Thanks for the advice. Gi-Jane, I'm not being vain... I like exercising and it is really one of the only few things giving me joy, right now. Everything else is just mostly stress, so getting taken that away from me, too... It rather sucks. And yeah, I do like the way I look better now because I've always been called 'squishy' or been told that I'm insanely weak... That doesn't mean I'm vain, I've just made progress that I don't want to lose in such a short amount of time. I was maybe looking for suggestions on things I can do that aren't heavy exercise or reassurance that I won't really see a difference that quickly.

I wouldn't ever go against the advice of a doctor... I'm in the health care field, and I listen and do exactly as told and nothing more, nothing less. So, if she says not to exercise for 15 days, or more... Then I won't, no worries about that.

When I was bedridden for several weeks, I didn't notice any loss of muscle after first 2 weeks, if that makes you feel better.
