Weekend cocktails ruining your progress?

Quote  |  Reply

They sure are ruining mine. Last week I started coming to this site and soon became obsessed. I love having a place where I can be held accountable for everything I put in my mouth. HOWEVER, come every Thursday or so, I love to relax with a few drinks. For the calories, I've decided to drink Bacardi Limon w/ Fresca (68 cals). This worked well Thursday night, but then fast forward to Saturday. I was so stupid to "save" my calories from lunch in order to party big, but as the night wore on, hunger kicked in, pizza arrived, and I indulged. Between Friday and Monday, I put on nearly 5 lbs. I still lost a pound last week which puts me right at my goal, but I could be progressing so much faster if only I could put the drinks down! This is the downfall of every diet I get on. Sorry about the rant, but maybe putting it out there might help me have the control to leave the drinks out for a while. Anyone else have this issue?

This tread is awesome.  It takes so much guilt off knowing that others are fighting the wonderful temptation of drink!  I use to work in the rest/bar business and know how hard refusing that drink after work can be.  After a long busy shift, nothing is better!  Then I go and marry a European.  They have a much different attitude towards drinking.  I learned to have a drink at home with dinner.  (I never use to drink at home).

Starting CC has really helped me to cut back.  Counting all those calories just in alcohol...scarey.  I wish I could trust myself just to have a small glass of wine with dinner, but it is so easy to keep going.  Not to mention fun.

Food really is wonderful with a lovely glass of wine.  And nothing is better after a stressfull day then a good ol dirty martini!

Wow guys, I freaking love this forum, but let me tell you one thing. It's 12:41 and I'm sitting in my office and all I want is a Kettle One dirty martini now- thanks! Totally kidding, sorta :-)

Anywho, I think I share the same experiences as everyone else here. I'm super nervous becaues I'm about to move back to the big city, where all of my old college buddies are, to finish my degree. OH BOY! The good news is that my boyfriend and I are NOT living near campus. But that's why they made cars, right? Great! Teehee.

Also- a favorite drink of mine, good with gin or vodka. I use Kettle One and the off brand Crystal Lite pomegranite juice. It's WONDERFUL. But beware... drink this in your crappy pj's, on a crappy couch, because if you spill it anywhere, it stains. It's super strong, so you can even dilute it in half :-)

mandi35: Pomegranite... mmm. Is that the zero calorie kind in the powder pouches? I personally love the raspberry ice, and the pink lemonade is great with rum!! HAHAHA!!!
Jennifer- It sure is! I lovers all of those flavors, too :-) I love Kettle One more, so we have a nice thing going here, haha.
liljdoll: yah being DD can be rough when you are the sole sober survivor! i however find humor in drunk people, especially my friends. there is always some sort of comedy with my group. however i do always wish i was drinking with them! that is why i have cut down my amount of going out! BUT there is no harm in a few drinks... so for now I just find ways to keep the alcohol i do consume to a minimum and try to drink the alcohol with the lowest calories! :o)
I have the same problem, I love rum martini's and red wine of any kind. Luckily I have only just started this website a week ago and after hearing your story "adding 5 pounds over the weekend" will probably have to go on the wagon, or at least a modified verrsion.  Back to my 3 drink limit from my college days.  After 3 I tend to loose control, let my hair down and become much more fun . . . much more eating and drinking added too.  sounds like you were okay untill the second day and you had planned in advance to go all the way ... so to speak  :)
Hey yall im new but this thread caught my eye.Yuuuup cocktials kill it!I have found however that red wine and vodka tonics (not soda water! that has sugar!)with lime are "ok". Wine has more carbs of course but its good for you supposidly.
I've given up the snack and drink. I eat a couple of hours before I go drinking. Then at the end of the night I slug water like it's going out of style. I'm quite sure I'm never giving up my beer, but the water seems to help cure the cravings and it helps in the hangover department. I can't make myself drink hard alcohol, so this seems to be my only path. Or, at least, the only path I care to take. LOL.
bobbyshow: I too have tried the water guzzling technique to curtail the effects of alcohol. I was doing the alternate one glass of (insert fav alcoholic drink here) and one glass of water. It's funny though... once you get a few drinks of the good stuff, it's kind of like a race to get through the glass of water just so I can get another drink.... yeah, still got pretty lit! Hahaha! Now I just order a water with my drink and just kinda try to alternate both sip by sip. The sip ratio being 1-10 sips of drinky drink and 1-2 sips of water. hehe

malia 1 - rum martini?  Never tried that.  Sounds sweet.  Anyone ever had Chopin vodka?  Belvedere is goooood as well.

Drinking tons of water before bed is a must, no matter how much I have drank.  It really helps to not feel the effects in the morning.  I've tried the glass of water alternate thing.  It just doesn't go well with wine.  Ya know?

liljdol! what happened here?  I hadn't checked it in a couple of days and now is city central.  For the longest time I felt that all my buddies had left it high and dry.  I'm trilled to see all the new contributors.  I'm supposed to get an email a day if there is a post on a thread I've tagged, but that seems to be inconsistent.

Love the bikini chef show idea! Although it would be a little scary if they put me in the bikini.

I'm currently doing the suck down the water before you get the next drink. I'm also getting more consistent in my workouts.  Not much progress to show on the scale yet....

Wish I could do the hard stuff, but really I would be running into walls if I did that.

And what's with the blue moon beer.  I put miller lite on my food log and it keeps suggesting that I'd like blue moon.  I think its funny that this site would actually encourage me to drink beer and one with even more calories!

Oh i also forgot to add a tip.  I carry a post it note with me when I go out.  I just put check next to wine or beer and list anything that crosses my lips as I go.  My friends think its quirky, but they don't care.  It helps the memory for logging.

Vodka on the rocks with an olive! That way you get your much needed alcohol fix and you get a little snack with each drink! It's the perfect solution!!

However, the five olives you might eat throughout the night are not a substitute for dinner. Believe me on this one Smile.

set24 love the olive idea! 2 funny!

I hated when  people said this before I started exercising, but for those who drink b/c of stress, the endorphins that are released from exercise would not only help with the stess, but you'd feel better just for exercising instead of taking in calories.  Time is usually a big factor with the stess though, so that may not be feasible most of the time (since time is often a big stressor in itself).

I'm going to try and limit myself to two Bacardi and Diet Cokes, (I drink to loosen up) when our friends come over Friday, but I find that even at 37 I feel the pressure to drink more and then I'm so loose I eat whatever's around.  I'm limiting myself to two drinks and five olives and then I'm done!  (we'll see).

Maybe  we should all report in every Monday to keep ourselves accountable!

This is my first post and I don't really know how to do it but I figured I give it a shot. Beer is my biggest problem.  I drink a lot  so when I go on a diet i have to go cold turkey.  I don't have any self control so 1 beer turns into 12 in a hurry.  I go to the pub on Tuesdays for trivia.  This was the 1st week back after the holidays.  I had 4 low carb beers which was pretty good but when I came home I drank the only thing in the house...Bailey's.  Not good.

I have to say that I love this post because it helps me to know that Im not the only one that cant say NO to alcohol cold turkey! I have cut down so much these last couple weeks... It has been hard, lots of temptations... but its almost more rewarding to see less lbs on the scale! So thanks to all my alcohol friends on here for making me feel not so alone! :o)
Unfortunately for me the not drinking 2 cases of beer a week is not translating into weight loss.  I gave up beer, bread, Potatoes, most fruit, all snacks and candy and I have lost 4 lbs in 10 days.  Most of that came off the first day, all water weight I guess.  It is pretty depressing.  I live in Australia right now so the kids are on summer holidays and I have not been to the gym in about a month but I just thought cutting all those calories and carbs out I would lose weight hand over fist.  I doesn't seem fair and not losing any weight for day on end sends me right to the bottle.  What the heck I'm not losing why should I deprive myself?

meena3 I feel your pain, only my vis is wine.  But don't give up just yet, I'm not.  (Although tomorrow is my birthday and there is a bottle of wine in the rack with my name on it!)

I, like you, have been weak in the exercise department.  I am planning on giving myself a gift of either workout equipment or join a gym.  I hope that will motivate me to find the time to workout.

Try incorporating in some exercise with your kids.??? Just a thought.

Stick in there, those pounds will drop.  You have lost 4, that is great!

Wow.

Reading this post made me realize that I am not the only one out there that falls flat on my face during the weekends.  Every Monday morning I suffer from weekend remorse.  The alcohol leads to lowered inhibitions and then cravings for foods that I miss (pizza, chocolate, cake, chocolate, cookies, etc.) and then I find myself binging at night.  I typically do not keep bags of chips or cookies lying around my house because I can't be trusted!  But...this little trick doesn't even work for me.  I'll actually walk to the store in my inebriated state, buy bags of junk food, stuff my face, throw the rest out so I don't completely consume each bag, and then hate myself the next morning.  Like you *thunderbuns*, I'm good during the weekends (yes, the elliptical and all) and then undo all my work during the weekends.  I swear I gain 5 pounds between Friday and Monday even though my boyfriend thinks it's humanly impossible to do so.

Cry

Well, that's why we're here (i say as I have a sip of my wine) to encourge each other to offset our lifestyle choices and remain as healthy and slim as possible.  I did the eliptical today for 40 min on manual.  It's my second week of staying consistent in my work outs.  Last week the scale didn't even move.  Just went up like .4.  Measurements didn't show anything different either.  This week I hope to see some change.  For me it takes a little while to get the movements going and then I have more success after the first few week.

4lbs is great! I'm sure if you keep it up next week will show the same or even more improvement!  Stay with it!
