Weekend cocktails ruining your progress?
They sure are ruining mine. Last week I started coming to this site and soon became obsessed. I love having a place where I can be held accountable for everything I put in my mouth. HOWEVER, come every Thursday or so, I love to relax with a few drinks. For the calories, I've decided to drink Bacardi Limon w/ Fresca (68 cals). This worked well Thursday night, but then fast forward to Saturday. I was so stupid to "save" my calories from lunch in order to party big, but as the night wore on, hunger kicked in, pizza arrived, and I indulged. Between Friday and Monday, I put on nearly 5 lbs. I still lost a pound last week which puts me right at my goal, but I could be progressing so much faster if only I could put the drinks down! This is the downfall of every diet I get on. Sorry about the rant, but maybe putting it out there might help me have the control to leave the drinks out for a while. Anyone else have this issue?

Long time no see, Miss Natoo! Good to see you're doing better at supressing those tempting urges. I have to admit, I've slowed down quite a bit too. Once last week, and once yesterday I bought bottles of wine which I intended to drink the evening I bought them and I didn't even open them! I'm totally throwing myself off! But I reevaluated my calories and I'm doing the Slim Fast thing so I suppose I'm making a more serious effort to get this baggage off. If I don't make any progress in the next few weeks, I'm going back to the evening routine... Heck, seems like I was making MORE progress when I drank every night!! Haha! We'll see how it goes though. I'm still allowing myself one night a week of sheer indulgence. Take care! (btw, are you a bartender? just curious)
*hasta I was reading over the thread and I totally missed your question about my military workouts... Truth is, I'm not exactly sure if it makes that big of a difference in my weight loss anymore. We workout 3 times a week for a minimum of an hour. Everyday is something slightly different, centered mainly around pushups, situps, and cardio (2 mi jog, 45 mins elliptical, calisthenics). Problem is, the guy who leads our PT is pretty inconsistent so the only time I get quality fat burning in my workouts is when we can do cardio on our own. I will say, however, that I probably have more strength than the average female, but any weight loss effort on my part has to be done beyond PT time. Sucks, but I suppose it should motivate me to do more on my own.... I'm just so laaaaaaaazy!!! At this point, I rely much more on cutting cals than amping up my workouts.
On a side note, *clears throat* this forum needs to WAKE UP!!! I miss all the funny banter about drunken escapades!! All the forum veterans are sobering up! Hahaha!!!

ok ok i know i havent been keeping up with this website but i have a good excuse or 12! My best friends just moved (one last friday and one this morning) to so cal about 5 hours from our hometown. so i have been spending ooodles of time with them! :o) I also started a new job, which helps me to stay off of the computer. i have also been taking tests and working my way towards becoming a Youth Correctional Counselor! i have still been doing well when it comes to saying no to drinks, except for last night. i got suckered into drinking. when i tried ordering a tall, not a double, but somehow the bartender conned me into a double tall which ended up becoming 1 part ice, 1 part coke, and 20 parts rum! lol but it was fun! anywho! oh and another excuse i have been apartment hunting, but i found one and am moving the middle of this week! im super stoked! i might not have internet there for a week so if i dispear again you know why!
WELL thats my story and im sticking to it!

ps yes i am a bartender its oh so fun! and stops me from drinking so much on fri sat!
Ahhh, hello my fellow drinkers!!
Drinking has always been my downfall when it comes to weight loss/maintenance. I've been a heavy drinker since the end of high school and going to a university known for its partying certainly didn't help things out (there was a bar to go to every night of the week, no joke). I've finished school, but the drinking certainly hasn't died down much since moving back home.
My problem is that I have a very high tolerance which not only hurts me calorie-wise but also money-wise! $5+ per drink x 6+ drinks (plus cab fare and drunken food) every time I go out adds up. I've always been a beer drinker, but I've recently tried switching to Vodka Sodas (with some lime), since compared to most drinks they're relatively low in calories (as opposed to Tonic which actually has a lot of sugar as opposed to soda water which is just carbonated water). I also enjoy dirty Gin Martinis, which definitely get you tipsy faster than wine or beer and has all that tasty olive juice in it! Mmmm.. Unfortunately, it was a friend's birthday this weekend, which led to straight vodka drinking plus many, many shots... which in the frenzy o drinking made it difficult to gauge how much I'd been drinking. Needless to say, it didn't turn out so well by the end of the night. Hahaha.
I've found that I have to have a fairly filling meal before I go out drinking otherwise it doesn't end well, I either puke/and or binge on nachos or pizza later in the evening. I've also found that pre-drinking before going to bars helps a lot, because you can control what you eat and drink better (and it's gentler on the wallet!).
Hi guys!
Believe it or not, I made through last night without a taste of alcohol. This is very unusual for me. Sunday, I had quite a bit and woke up on the couch about 3 a.m. Sad. Was a little depressed yesterday about it so I guess that kept me off of it.
I get off work around 2:30 p.m. Lucky, I know. So I've really found that the 4pm hour is when I really crave a beer or a white wine. I love to have a little wine while I cook dinner. If I can get to about 5:30p.m I think I can make it.
Does anyone watch american idol? My family and I are addicted to it. It seem like a great time to party to me. That's another time that I have a hard time resisting.
Now, that's what I'm talkin about! Finally woke some of you guys up, and a newbie *hello boother*. I guess I have been laying a little low too. Work has got me so bogged down that all I've been wanting to do is lay on the couch and stare at the tv when I get home. HOWEVER, it got into the 70s today and it's still in the 60s so I had to go sit out on the porch with a cold one... or two (still have a few left). Needless to say, I wasn't very hungry so I'm drinking my dinner tonight. It's this Mike's Light Hard Cranberry Lemonade. Very tasty when sipped (and only 98 cals a bottle). Although, the sugary stuff sometimes gets to my stomach. So far so good though.
By the way, I participated in my first spinning class today. Talk about a hellacious workout!! When we were done, I went to the instructor and asked how many cals we had burned (for the log, of course) and she said "well, depending on how much you pushed it, anywhere from 400-800 in about 45 minutes!" I settled on 500 just to be safe, but MAN, that class was a killer. Should definitely help soak up this water weight that my good ol' monthly visitor stuck on me. Yeah, and another reason why I've decided to drink... surely the alcohol will drain the rest out, right? Haha!! Anywho, kudos to Miss Hasta for a dry night Monday. I'm afraid I might be slightly leaning off the wagon this week. We'll see what tomorrow brings...

*hasta American Idol.... here and there. I can't bring myself to sit through all the time they spend dragging on and on about the contestants. I just want to hear them sing! That part is pretty entertaining. I could see how this could become a drinking event. My friend and I used to celebrate Drunken Lost Wednesday (love that show!), but then she got married and knocked up. Needless to say, it's just me and the dogs now, and maybe a few drinks.
Hello all!
So...the weather this weekend was absolutely gorgeous so I decided to be healthy and take a bike ride with my boyfriend. Well, somehow or another we ended up at a brewery/grill and the next thing I know, I'm peddling back home with a buzz.
How was everyone else's weekend?
I am happy (or unhappy, however you look at it) to report that I have taken a bet to remain free of booze for the next 30 days. It's a $50 bet so I figured I may as well try it out.... I'm interested to see how it'll go. This past weekend was my first sober weekend in a WHILE, and I have to say, it wasn't that bad. Although I did find it quite boring. You see, I drink to kill time. Now I'm just drinking mass amounts of water and smoking a little more. Hey, a girl's gotta have a vice!
Three weekends left! (*grits teeth) ![]()

Buzzed bicycling, now I could get into that! You just can't pass by a brew pub on a sunny day without stopping in. I clearly understand that.
Jennifer- how ya doin' girl? You've got some guts taking a bet like that. I think he should have left the 100$ on the table. On the other hand you'll probably be saving that much money by not buying the booze.
I just got back from a mini spring break vacation. Very family oriented, but a great excuse to start having a cold one as early as 2pm each day. Oh boy. I don't even want to step on the scale for a few days, maybe even a week.
Thought you all might appreciate this forward I just got-if you haven't already seen it. I imagine quite a few people will be repeating some of the last ten lines after the St. Patrick's Day festivities this weekend.

Good list! I like the one about karaoke... I love to sing when I'm drunk! Except for those nights when I'm so drunk that I have to cover one eye while holding the mic in the other hand just to TRY to make out the lyrics... it kinda works. hehe.
*hasta The bet.... it's actually going quite well. I'm not sure if it's my mindset about being determined to make it through the month, or if it's actually the absence of alcohol, but I've been so much happier. I'm usually snappy and argumentative, but I've just been so happy-go-lucky this week. Now, it could also be because my extreme water consumption and insane working out that I've been up to the past few weeks, but something is working. I am still suffering from a minor case of boredom during my typical drinking hours. Last Friday when the bet started, I got happy on the drive home because I usually pour one as soon as my week ends, then I thought "wait a minute, I'm not going to drink tonight.... weeeeird." This weekend might be tough though with St. P's day and all. I'm determined to stay dry though. Do you know how much wine this $50 could buy? Haha! Hope you're doing well. Might have to try buzzed cycling one of these days.

Nothing to do with low carb, I just really don't like onions.![]()
Good for you Jennifer. I'm routing for you all the way.
So Wednesday was my birthday... so of course I had to go out drinking with my friends! We started predrinking right after work and then eventually hit the bar around 11:30pm, and by that point I'd probably already had about 5 drinks... which led to several more drinks/shots at the bar. Needless to say I wasn't feeling so hot the next day! Haha, but I still managed to go out for a nice dinner with my family and sneak in a chocolate martini on thursday! I'm also going out this Saturday for a redo of my birthday celebrations, since quite a few of my friends are out of town for school or couldn't go out during a weeknight (lame!). Soooo.. I figure my calorie-intake for this week is totally blown, but I guess I can try to get back on track next week! :)
Chocolate martini mmmmmmm. Have any of you ever been to Outback and tried their GINGERBREAD martini?!! I think it might be a seasonal drink, but MAN, was it awesome! It tasted just like a liquid ginger snap with a kick. And they rim the glass with crushed gingerbread cookies so you get a sweet little snack with it. Oh my goodness, heaven!
Hope you all have a tall, cold glass of green beer for me this weekend! I'm still roughing the sobriety challenge.
Jennifer
so i am finally moved into my new apartment, its so nice to be on my own again. however that means saving money. so less drinks, which i guess is the point to losing weight but booo on that! i have been doing much better on the drinking, i think part of it has to do with the fact that i bartend fri and sat so no time to drink. but i do find time randomly throughout the week. i had to work st pats day which sucked, i wanted a green beer. i did have a poor mans cider, but only one! anywho i hope everyone has recovered from the "food coloring" haha!
bottoms up!

OK, so I know I caught on to this thread a bit late, but I can totally relate. Drinking sabotages my diet EVERY time. I quit drinking for 2 months and lost 20 lbs. I then rationalized that if it was only a few drinks with my hubby on the weekends it would be ok, right? WRONG! I binge like some sort of posessed manic when I drink. Then the next day I binge again because I feel like I failed so why not? Any of this sound familiar to anyone here? Well, the problem is that my husband drinks, not heavily, but he has a couple of beers at night. It's the only time we have to spend together and it feels nice to hang out and just relax and have a drink with him. Is it wrong that I enjoy that so much? I mean, we met at a bar! We have this in common. OMG, i think I just admitted that drinking is the only thing we have in common. I don't know if that's sad or funny. I'll go with funny for now.
No drinks last night (and American Idol is just not very entertaining when you're sober)
*nat Boo! I so did not have any green beer this year! Don't know if you saw my post about the bet, but I've officially been alcohol-free for 17 days now. Yeah. Believe it. Not even a sip! It's not so bad though, haha, who am I kidding? I miss drinking!!! By the way, what's a poor man's cider? Never heard of it.
*idajoon I think everyone who posts regularly on this forum can relate to you. Haha! And don't feel bad about the husband 'we only have drinking in common' thing. I was initially attracted to my husband when we used to party together as friends. I thought 'finally, a man who can hang with me!' Since we've been married, he has calmed down alot, but I still love to hang out on the porch with a cocktail (used to be everyday, used to be with him). Unfortunately he's all but stopped drinking, but I guess that's a plus for me cause I always have a DD! And yes, I do still hang out on the porch alone. Welcome to the forum!
