Weekend Munchies

Quote  |  Reply
I do so well during the week on my regular schedule, but then I tend to blow it on the weekend and loss all the progress that I have made. Does anyone have a great way to deal with this. I am a mother of two (4 and 1) and just end up putting things in my mouth that I shouldn't. Sometimes I don't even realize it until it is two late. Any ideas to keep me aware and on top of it? Does anyone else suffer from the weekend binges?

I think its hard to say. No doubt, having kids around probably makes it harder. I spend my weeks working 12 hour shift work and find it easy to stick to a constant and well planned out diet. On weekends I stay with my girlfriend who lives on a university campus. Living the university life on weekends can make it very hard. Add on to that fact, she loves her junk. The stresses of being a student and having an amazing metabolism means she can indulge as she wants. Not the same for me.

I think its just a matter of trying really hard and being dedicated. Its a lifestyle change right?

It helps me to stop before I eat anything and ask myself if I am hungry or just bored.  Sometimes just calling attention the fact that I am munching for no reason, will make me rethink doing it.  I have a weakness for Doritos & Oprah.  Sometimes nothing helps, and I just want to munch.  When that happens, I try to munch something reasonably healthy so that I won't regret it later.  It also helps me to put my snack in a bowl.  If I eat anything right out of the bag/box it comes in, it is much harder to be good.

I have the same problem. I am awesome during the week and then comes the week end to blow it all a way. My new goal for the weekend is to add in a little extra exercise. That way if I end up (even though I'll still try not to) blowing it, I will not lose all the hard work I did during the week. Also, I am going to eat a healthy breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. I don't know about you but if I start the day out bad, I tend to just give up for the rest of it.

dburget and michl1031: I have the exact same problem. I do very well during the week and blow my diet off on the weekend.

do you want to form a support group. together we can help and support each other.

I do this as well... its super easy for me to stick to my diet when I am so busy during the week... but then friday night comes around and I snack and drink away, haha.   Anyways I'd say it helps to plan out what you will eat on sat/sun the night before. That way if it isn't in your plan you won't eat it. Add in a dessert at the end of the night if you stuck to your plan all day as a reward.  Don't deprive yourself, just make a sensible plan that will keep you full but in control.

Keep busy so you won't think about eating when bored!

and keep busy it really does help..try and plan what u eat

I am also a mother of 2 one is 2 the other 9 months. I am a stay at home mom so the temptation is alway there. I do a few things to help me get through I try to eat lunch before they do about 11:30 I will try to get togeather a healthy meal and eat it before I get lunch ready for them. This makes me not hungery and not tempted to munch on their goodies.

I also snack on healthy foods during the day carrots are great because they are crunchy but also sweet and you can eat pretty much as much as you want. I try to have them cut and in the fridge ready for me to grab.  Arrow root cookies are great too 30 cals per cookie if you feel like you need to binge grab a few of those. The 100 cal snack packs are good too but can be expensive. If you buy things like pretzels or popcorn try putting 1 serving of it into a ziploc bag and put it in the cupboard for when you need to grab something. At least once a week I get the feeling like I have to binge on something and I do but I try to make it something that won't do to much damage.

It is just nice to know that I am not the only one.  It is my ongoing goal to get better eating habits on the weekend.  I'll do really good one week, then the next week I crash.  I am just taking it one step of the time.  I tend to do the most damage in the afternoon.  I get up early and stay busy most of the morning, but by the afternoon it slows down.  As the weather gets warmer, it gets easier.  Go outside and play with the kids for a few hours, gardening, etc.  Its the winter time blues that hit every year.  Good luck everyone and thankyou for your thoughts and encouragement.  My goal is to have more and more good weekends and less disasters.  It is getting easier and easier.  Knowing that I have to write down what I eat helps too.  It's a big eye opener!
