Weekend travel

Quote  |  Reply
Hello Ladies,

Went on a weekend trip and experienced some difficulities, 1. without my laptop, 2. eating out three meals a day 3. selecting the right foods to eat.

Boy was it mind controlling.  I'm still new enough to care about what I choose to eat.  But finding this right combination isn't easy.

I've overdone it a little, but by Wednesday, weigh day, I should have gotten back on track and at last not gained as much as I fear.

Eating at home is diffinately better and so much cheaper.

How have you gals done?

It actually becomes easier the longer you get into your healthy lifestyle.  I travel quite a lot for business and my 'technique' is to try to stick to the same types of foods and similar portion-sizes to what I would serve myself at home.   I don't try to count calories (totally pointless with catered food) or be too obsessive because that's tiresome.  It means, for example, choosing a light cereal and some fruit from the hotel breakfast buffet.   It means filling half my plate with vegetables/salads before adding the main dish to my plate in a restaurant.  Another useful self-imposed rule is that I don't drink alcohol on trips any more and if the hotel has a gym or a pool I try to make use of it.

I think learning how to be consistent about healthy-eating and exercise is the biggest challenge everyone faces.  Not just weekends away but holidays, parties, Christmas, staying with friends...    It's so easy to be 'on a diet' when you're 100% in charge and then 'on a blow-out' the rest of the time otherwise. The all-or-nothing situation that creates is very hard on the waistline.   Being a little more flexible is easier to deal with and also good practice for the day when you need to maintain your new weight.
Thank you so much.  The ideas you shared are very helpful.  I'm really new to this, and feel trapped some times.  It will take paractice.

I do agree about not drinking.  I did drink 1/2 then passed it on to my husband.  next time I'll save $6.00 and just drink a diet coke.
