Are weekends awful for anyone else?
All throughout the week, I'm vigilant about my calories and exercise. On the weekends, I still exercise but the calories.... I end up usually eating way over my daily goals, and gain back at least some of the weight I lost during the week :/
Anyone else really struggle on the weekends?
Weekends are my downfall too. I usually don't exercise on the weekends. They are my scheduled days off but I don't eat good at all. I either don't eat regularly and then I'm starving when I do eat, or I eat garbage on the weekends. It's a work in process for me. I'm getting a bit better but it's still a struggle because I have no routine on the weekends. I would love some tips on how to not blow all the hard work during the week on the weekends.
Just want to let you know I have a diet plan that allows you to eat whatever you want on the weekends. Actually when you are losing weight you have one day the "Spike Day" and following the plan during the week most people lose 2lbs a week. Once you hit your goal weight to transition into the lifestlyle plan where you eat clean calories during the week and whatever you want on the weekends. It's a great plan and it fits the average person's lifestlye.
The book is called the Spike Diet and it was just published. It's written from my personal experience and I took everything I learned from my failed attempts at losing weight and put that into a plan that is easy to follow.
Let me know if you have any questions.
I'm usually worse on weekends, but usually not too terrible. What gets me in trouble are drinking weekends.
I have a "day off" one of the days. It usually works for me and I still end up losing around 2lbs a week. I usually pick the day that we are social so I dont have to worry about what I eat.
It doesn't work for everyone but it works for me.
Hey scrawnychubbchubb,
Before I started eating MOSTLY raw and MOSTLY vegan, my weight would
sometimes fluctuate 5-10 lbs from Friday night to Monday morning.
So much salt in the junk I was eating, caused me to gain water weight.
It would usually take a week to lose it then I'd start all over again Friday night.
Oh, and back then I was drinking too
(which does not lend itself to great food choices)
Now I only vary about 2 lbs and lose it in a day or two.
Could there be too much sodium in your diet?
SCC,
One HUGE problem I had when I first started dieting was that I had a girlfriend who was only around on the weekends. I had a big problem when she was here because she was really good about keeping her weight way down on her own and was not trying to lose any weight. My diet did not stick until I let her know that from now on even though it was the weekend, that did not mean my diet was going out the window. This did not mean we couldn't have fun, just that I would be watching my intake every day of the week and weekend.
The moral of the story is this: Whether you have a significant other or not, most of us become more sociable on the weekends, and many times we need to communicate with our friends what our goals are and how we are trying to reach them. It doesn't have to be a big sit-down talk, but you can politely ask everyone in your own way to support you as you strive to meet these goals. If it means a lot to you and these friends really care about you, they will be glad to support your diet even if they choose to continue on with their own habits. I promise, it is very possible to sit beside someone who orders a burger with cheese fries and still eat your salad. In fact, many times it feels good to know that you have the willpower to eat your salad rather than that fatty burger and fries!
GOOD LUCK!

YES!!!!!!! My 3 reasons:
1. My gym is located in the industrial park that I work in which is a long ride away from home.
2. I can't seem to get away from watching the STEELERS
play and eating junk food and drinking.
3. I go out to eat at least once (sometimes more) every weekend (more chance to drink!!).
Hey, yep weekends are my downfall too - friday night is my treat night and we have a takeaway. Then i tend to not eat breakfast on the Saturday as I am too full from the night before but then come lunchtime I will eat too much of the wrong stuff and then normally drink on a Saturday night so will inevitably snack too! Every weekend recently I've undone all my hard work during the week - I don't gain, I lose 2 pounds or so during the week but then gain it again on a weekend. I do agree its a social thing but I need to have more willpower and just be good, vicious circle xx
I guess I don't see the difference between a Wednesday and a Saturday. I follow my program seven days a week. If I have a couple of slices of pizza and a few beers during the game on Sunday I add them into my calorie total and try to eat healthier the rest of the time.
It's just easier for me to not go WAAAAAY overboard.

I think Friday nights for me are the toughest. Lately I've just been staying in to avoid the 2drink trap so I do laundry instead... thrilling. I know.
But Saturdays are usually busy for me. I'm up at 6 running around, chasing balls in the park with my dog, cleaning the house, running errands, getting all the crap done that I put off during the week, etc. I usually do a 3-6 mile hike depending on my motivation. So I figure anything extra in calories is well justified.
What I find helpful though is designating Sundays as my 'food day'. That's when I plan out all my food for the week, weigh and measure everything, cook it up and then fill the fridge with tupperware. It's keeps me in check since Sundays were always big dinner days growing up and by reminding myself to be aware of what goes into my mouth I'm less likey to stare blindly into the fridge every 2 hours.
My weekends are a bit harder, because I don't have a computer at home. So typically I write down everything I eat and log CC on Mondays. I mean I can count and get a good idea, of how many calories I've taken in on the weekends but it's never "spot on" like CC.
In my house we usually do "Sunday Breakfast" which is always Eggs, Grits, Sausage, Bacon and Biscuits. SIGH...my plate just has the eggs and a piece or two of whole wheat toast. Not too bad, but....we usually have Sunday Dinner, which is not too long after Sunday Breakfast, and that's always some kind of comfort food. Last Sunday it was Beef Short Ribs, and I thought "oh I can have just one rib, how many calories can be in one rib???" I got to work on Monday and logged in that ONE BEEF SHORT RIB!!! and my god that was 1024 calories, I almost fainted in my cubicle!! I'm trying to control the weekends I really am!!
Thanks everyone!
I don't know... on weekends I get into a rut, sit down and straight up EAT. But I am really trying to do better.
kenkenken- I might have too much sodium in my diet. I'm a vegetarian and eat mostly vegan two days out of the week, but I think I'm going to switch my vegan days to the weekends. That will probably help.
JTG- The social part is easier for me too. Only when I'm home and unproductive, "resting" after a long hard week. I have to break that habit!
Thanks to everyone! And good luck.
