Weekly Cookie Binge Habit :(
I need some advice here!! I am a very busy college student (studying physics o.o ) and I barely have time to see friends anymore....so my best friend and I get together every Friday and hang out as a tradition. We watch movies, eat dinner (always healthy) and have a really good time...but....every week she bakes the most AMAZING cookies ever. And the most fattening :) And I always end up eating like 5 or 6 of them (I'm guessing they each have at least 250 calories!!) and I feel SO gross for a couple days after....but I can't seem to help it!! I keep telling myself that I'll just eat one (or two) but I can never quit! I can't ask her to stop baking them because it's her house and all...and she eats them too....so what can I do? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question because I should just be able to resist...but we've been doing this for almost a year so it's a very bad and stubborn habit!
I eat very healthy otherwise and don't deprive myself...I am 5'9 and 125 lbs so I'm not overweight...but I know that what I'm doing is not healthy, and it will catch up with me eventually!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you!! :D :D
i honestly doubt the cookies are 250 calories each, and if you've been doing this for quite some time now and haven't gained any weight then why is it a problem? many people have cheat days...maybe you could just plan this as your cheat day and then get over the psychological turmoil caused by it. otherwise, your only choice is to be more diligent in your efforts to eat only 1 or 2. it isn't the healthiest habit in the world but we can't be 100% perfect all the time and if you enjoy the cookies have them, just try to cut back on the number. have a small bowl of ice cream or something after your first cookie which is only like 150 calories, and then tell her you've had enough sweets...then maximum intake would be around 400 calories as opposed to the 1250 you think you're eating from having 5 cookies. just a suggestion=)
I just made Mrs. Field's Cookies yesterday which are totally decadent and they only had 114 calories in each cookie. I agree with Chrissy, don't worry too much about your splurges. Just try to limit them as best you can and be good the rest of the week.

Why not tell your friend you are trying to eat healthier. Take some healthy snacks with you like rice crackers or hummus/vege sticks, air popped popcorn, or limit yourself to 2 cookies max.

you are a healthy weight and there is room in EVERYONE'S diet for ice cream and candy in moderation, so if you have it once a week it really isn't a big deal and won't derail a weeks worth of healthy eating. heck,..i manage to have ice cream EVERY SINGLE NIGHT because i account for it. that's all it takes, just know that you're going to have it and adjust your other meals accordingly. =)
Thank you all for your replies! I am not worrying so much about weight gain, but it's the gross "saturated" feeling that I'm trying to avoid...plus I consider what I do to be binge eating in a way and that is not healthy (maybe not bingeing but it's not mindful eating for sure) so I'll follow your suggestions! They stop tasting as good anyways after the 3rd or 4th cookie LOL so I might as well limit it to 2.
Also, these are pretty big cookies...I'm talkin' a diameter of around 4 inches probably...and they are rich....but chrissy you are right I shouldn't feel guilty about it...I will just enjoy my weekly cookies and make sure I stop once they stop tasting as good :D Thanks again!
PS - Yes Physics is hell sometimes HAHA but it's also awesome....I love electromagnetism the most :D
Why not instead of limiting, try eating it veeeerryy slowly. Putting down the cookie you're eating in between bites and chewing it until it's liquid will give you more time to enjoy it, and then you won't have to limit it at all because you'll feel satisfied with just one or two cookies. :0

I think its really not so bad to indulge once a week. No, its not very healthy, but it might keep you psychologically sane to give yourself a break. Chrissy is giving amazing advice, because everyone has room for a cookie or two. First off, enjoy your cookies. Second, add a glass of milk or something. It'll prevent your from eating as many, and make cookies much more oh so delicious! =)
Omg cookies! I hate them because they have so many calories and are soo unfilling but I lovee them because theyre just SOO good!
To solve my problem of eating too many of a good thing is I take ONE and put the rest of them somewhere far away/out of sight. I don't know how possible that is for you but maybe find a cupboard somewhere far from where you eat the cookies, just take one, and leave the rest there so you're not even tempted and that way it's an effort to actually get them :P good luck!!
