Weekly weigh-ins for motivation

Quote  |  Reply

Hi! Anyone interested in joining me for a weekly weigh-in and to share your tips to stay motivated and on track each week?  I could use some friends to hold me accountable to my plan. Weigh-ins each Monday. We can start with this basic format and change it up as we go along.  Thanks for joining me!

Starting weight - 182

Current weight - 182

Ideal/Goal weight - 140

Height - 5'6"

Age - 45

Motivation tips/weekly thoughts - This summer was a non-starter because I didn't feel comfortable in a swimsuit, or shorts...or cute summer tops.  Looking forward to looking good for the holidays and to think about next summer.  So far, so good...

Those Oops moments - Thought about having chocolate this evening. Kept it a thought so no oops for me today.

Hi, I'm in!  I was part of the group over a year ago and dropped off (and gained back 12 pounds) but I'm back on calorie counter again and have decided to rejoin the group.

Motivation tips....we went on vacation and I really felt chubby hanging around with my 24yo and 17yo daughters who are both very slim and trim.  I've been calorie counting again since mid June, but vacation really kicked my motivation up a notch.  The accountability of a weekly weigh in really helps me keep on track so THANKS for starting this thread.

I'm in.  Getting really depressed as my motivation is so lacking.  And I'm getting bigger not smaller.  I don't like the trend.  I lost my mother at 64 from heart attack and she also seemed to gain after 40...want to stop this trend now and get control of my intake again.  I have so little control anymore!

Count me in, too...I think that if you have some "accountability", it makes you think twice before doing something you shouldn't.  I just get mad at myself for not having the control to not eat "that"!!!!

Starting /Current Weight: 197

I look forward to the support and being supportive as well.

Motivation -- Just set up an excel spreadsheet that projects how fast I could lose 10 lbs if I burn 250 calories a day (walking) and stick to my "plan" for calorie intake.  6-8 weeks...not bad.  But one day at a time here...

As long as I can use my Friday night weight for Monday, I'm in. ;-) I weigh at the gym so it's always the same time of day and the same scale.

Starting weight - 228

Current weight - 198

Goal weight - 138

Height - 5'7"

Age - 40

Motivation tips/weekly thoughts - I looked at myself in one of my big T-shirts the other day and it looked big on me. First time I'd noticed that.

Those Oops moments - Realizing I should be directing more of the grocery shopping since my hubby keeps bringing home things I shouldn't be eating (he can afford to eat the fresh French bread - I can't!)

I'm in too Smile and like kristinkay26 I'd like to use my Wednesday morning weight. I am a TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) member and we weigh in every Wed. morning. I love the accountability of my TOPS pals as well as the encouragement.

BIG THANKS to desertbleau for an accountability/encouragement thread here on CC in the 40 Something group.

Motivation tips...'If you think you can...you can. If you think you can't...you're right'

One thing that encourage me when I'm ready to throw in the towel and dive head first into the New York Super Fudge Chunk ice cream (which BTW I do not keep in the house for obvious reasons) is our TOPS pledge which says,

I am an intelligent person.
I will control my emotions and not let my emotions control me.
Every time I am tempted to use food to satisfy my frustrated desires, build up my injured ego or dull my senses I will remember that even though I overeat in private my excess poundage is there for all the world to see.
I WILL TAKE OFF POUNDS SENSIBLY.

For me it's a mind thing more than a eating thing. I can control what I eat, the trick is to be very aware of my emotions and what triggers a gorging of goodies.

My OOOPS, after a long busy weekend out in the heat both days I was exhausted. Sweet hubby saw I was frazzled and told me to go take a shower and we'd go out to dinner. I drank two scotch and soda which loosened me up so I overindulged on the appetizer and went over my daily caloric goal of 1500 calories. Needless to say I've had to do double duty on the treadmill for the last couple of days and will be heading to it once I post this.

WE CAN DO IT!!!

Welcome all to the Weekly Weigh-In! I am so excited to see such amazing responses from so many. The accountability thing is huge. During a weight-loss program is probably the only time in my life when I will admit that guilt is a good emotion - that is as long as the guilt gets us up to the gym and not into the ice cream.

Lakemom - Wow, it is hard to compete with a 24 and 17 year old, but if it gets you     motivated then that is all that matters. Just don't get sidetracked by an unrealistic goal. Take it one pound at a time.

Abibaby - If I could only get that morning gym thing down. I have to go at 5:45 am in order to fit it in.  Will keep trying....

Struggling - aren't we all? Don't get depressed, we've all been there. You've taken the first step and that's the important one.  We are all here to support each other so lean on us when the day doesn't go well.

Smiley 63 -Accountability goes a long way toward motivation. I'm counting on your support too because I know I will need it.

Kristin - Friday nights work for me! Consistency is really helpful especially when it comes to scales.  My doctor's office scale is soooo wrong...(LOL). I'm impressed with your weight loss to date. Keep up the great work!

Beadedbelle - love the TOPS mantra. I can use that. It is always the wine that gets me and the Melting Pot nights out. How I'd love to hate restaurants.

Thanks so much to you all for joining in.  I will be looking forward to the Monday nights to see our progress and help each other out. Cheers to tomorrow and one more pound.Smile

Okay - I'm in for the weekly weigh-in. Hope I am not too late.

Are we going to be weighing in on Mondays??

Thanks so much for doing this!!

Great idea --  Me too!  Me too!!

Motivation tips/weekly thoughts -  Since I'm a deadline person (as in, nothing helps me to perform better than an approaching deadline) I booked my hubby and I on a cruise in January 2010.   I dread the idea of waddling around exotic beaches at this size so I'm pretty incented to reach my goal this time instead of fizzling out in haze of unfocused disinterest like I usually do.  Even if I don't reach my ideal weight by then, six months ought to be a decent period to have established some good eating / activity habits.

Those Oops moments - Eating out and ordering in are great big danger zones for me.   The Hubs has supported my decision to do neither for at least 2 months until I've tested my self-control.   Otherwise, so far doing great!

Hey, can I join too?  This would be great!  Started on Calorie Count last week.

Starting weight - 165

Current weight - 163

Ideal/Goal weight - 124

Height - 5'3"

Age - 41

Motivation tips/weekly thoughts -  I keep hearing that "40 is the new 30", so that means we should look and act younger and I know that since I am chunky I have a tendency to dress frumpy and to hide myself which makes me look older.  So the idea is to lose weight but also show off those assests - find something you like about yourself and flaunt it!

Those Oops moments - Thinking about ice cream, mmmm, with sprinkles, whipped cream, maybe chocolate syrup - oh wait, wake up!  Move away from that thought!

OK, I' m a newbie and I am in! Started on Calorie Count this week.

Thanks for initiating a weigh-in. As a new member, I appreciate the opportunity for support. I've gained weight post open heart surgery. I have an inability for my old exercise routine because I developed plantar fasciitis (even walking hurts my feet!) 3 weeks ago I started swimming 2xs/week and will have to increase it (hate the hairdo results but I am desparate) because it is the only thing left that doesnt pain my arches. Boyfriend is very supportive since surgery was so unexpected and scary. Need to remind myself I am lucky to be alive. But I want to live with a better quality of life where I can move with comfort and look great in clothes again. Good Luck to us all...

Behavior improvement: I stopped bringing food to bed with me to watch the news. Basic, but it is helping...

I am SOOOOOOOO excited. I went for weigh in at my TOPS meeting this morning and I lost 2.75 pounds since weigh in last week...YIPEEEEEEEEE.

Starting weight  235 in April 2009

current weight  199.25 WOOT WOOT, this is the first time I have weighed under 200lbs in over 10 years. Laughing

Motivational thought...which is our pledge we recite together at the end of our TOPS meeting - "You take my hand and I'll take yours and we'll start out today. For a helping hand is what we need to help us on our way. The way to goal is a lonely road, we need someone to care. Reach out my friend and take my hand and together we're almost there."

One more thought - 'If you've had a bad day, you need us. If you've had a good day we need you.' By sharing our ups and downs we can and will help each other with this journey to better health and a slimmer body.

WE CAN DO IT!!! Cool

That's huge, beadedbelle...   good for you!

yvette,

glad you are feeling better. I am your height but added 20 lbs recently so I have a goal of ~125 by 1 mAY 2010 (50lbs) - on the slow train since I cannot exercise alot due to injury.

The "counter" is a rude awakening to how high in calories my alledged healthy meals have been.

keep on countin'
