20 pounds in 10 weeks-have you ever done it??

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone!

I would really like to hear from people who have lost 20 pounds within 10 weeks or have good suggestions on how to do this!  I am 21, 5'3'' and about 140-145 and would like to be 120-125 in 10 weeks.  Can I do this?  And if you have done this, how many calories and what kind of exercises did you do?  Thanks everyone!!

This weekend did not go so well for me.  My cousin graduated yesterday so with all of my big Italian family in town the weekend was full of eating out, Grandma's rich Italian food and BBQs.  And BBQs Wisconsin style include burgers, brats, lots of desserts and mayonnaise salads.  I had a really hard time staying on track.  The worst part is that I really did try, I really wanted it, but the odds just seemed to be against me.  On top of all of that my new house (just moved in, in March) got hit by lightning and our roof beam split, so we may have to move out temporarily.  This is my first time as a homeowner so it's particularly stressful.  I just really need to keep on track.  I'm so good at finding excuses on why I can't keep up with my regimen that a big excuse like this has the potential of ruining me.  But I want it, I really want it and I hope that's enough to keep me on track.

I once lost 40 pounds in 12 weeks. I went from 200 lbs to 160 lbs. I'm a 5'7” male. I was trying to win a contest at work to go to Cancun. I followed a brutally strict diet. I ate No fast food, processed grains, added sugar, and only ate low GI foods. I averaged between 1200 and 1500 calories a day. I worked out 45 minutes every night on an elliptical trainer. It took an unreal amount of discipline! I would never do it again. And I didn't even win the contest!!! But, it can be done.

Hey mil~ You were in a tough spot this weekend!  The good news is you can get back on track and still have 10 weeks til mid-august and there will still even be some summer left!  Just try and get right back on track...I know it's tough sometimes...what I try to think of is that every decision I make food and exercise wise is either getting me closer or farther to my goal...it helps me stay on track (most of the time...lol)

wow, we are the same age, height and weight and i too WANT to lose 20 pounds!!! I had a baby 14 months ago and i never used to worry about my weight. but now, its almost impossible to lose it! so i joined CC in order to monitor my eat- for the past 9 days i have stuck to 1200-1400 calories and i've lost 2 pounds- 145-143 as of this morning.  i just hope i can stick with it. i ended up throwing out all of the junk food in my house and getting that book "eat this not that". i went to the grocery store and stocked up on healthier choices and lots of fruits and vegetables. i'm trying to eat a cup of fruit or carrots if i get hungry between meals.

Hey There! I am female 5"2' 148lbs - I would LOVE to lose 20lbs with you guys. Can you add me to the chart? I'm going to stick to 1200 calories / day and workout with cardio 60 minutes 4-5 days a week and weight training 2 - 3 days week. We can do it!

Erin - your on the list.

remember ladies! Friday morning send me all the updates.

And like I said before, Baby Steps!! Lets aim for a goal for weekend! Like, if we lose at least 2 pounds then you can have that beer you want so bad fri night, or order white bread with the turkey sandwich instead of wheat. how awesome would white bread be! LOL

Hey - Can you add me to the chart-I would love to be apart of this!  I need the support sooooo bad!!!  I am 5'3 and 180.8lbs.  My ultimate goal is 130lbs but I would love to be 160 by the end of the summer.  Can anyone give me food ideas for an ideal day? Also suggestions for workouts that don't feel so much like workouts?  As you can probably tell I HATE WORKING OUT!!!!

Luvm - Your on there. Weigh in is on Friday, post by 2 and we will have updates on everything!

Stick to your calorie intake goal and also work out, cardio (walking, elliptical) is a good starting point. I walk at least 45 minutes a day, whether its by myself or with my kids. You have to do at least 45 mins to fell like your doing anything, anything under that doesnt even get your heart rate going (at least when your walking ) I found scrubbing kitchen floors on your hands and knees is good workout ( found that out the hard way ) :):)

Hey There! I currently weigh 120 lbs and am 4'11"- I would LOVE to lose weight with all of you! I only want to lose 15 lbs though and hope this is alright. Can you add me to the chart? I am going to stick to about 1000 calories a day. I plan on working out 4-5 days a week consisting of 30-45 min of cardio (elliptical/treadmill) and 30-45 min of weights. I am sure that we can all do it! Hang in there ladies!

Loving - Your on there. Weigh in is on Friday, post by 2 and we will have updates on everything!

jess - Your on there. Weigh in is on Friday, post by 2 and we will have updates on everything!

So how is everyone doing on here.

Just found great snack food. Nature Valley Yogurt Bars. Only 140 per bar. and they taste really good. All different flavors though....so much better than my cheez its. LOL.

Cant wait to see how well we are all doing on Friday!

I have a new discovery as well!  I put a packet of swiss miss diet hot cocoa in my oatmeal...yum! Only 25 extra calories!

I'm sticking to my plan, so I suppose that alone is an accomplishment!  I really need to get that exercise time in, but it's not always easy.  Life is so busy!  I just have to keep my "eyes on the prize" so to speak.  20 pounds in 10 weeks would be so incredible and I really want it.  I can make a 10 week commitment.  I'm such a committed and devoted person to everything in life, I can't understand why this is different!

I have a discovery too!  I made the most delicious turkey burgers yesterday!  Only 130 calories each!  1 pound of extra lean ground turkey (I used Jenny-O Turkey Store brand). 1/4 cup whole wheat bread crumbs, chopped onion, chopped garlic, a little salt, pepper and thyme.  It made 4 large patties.  I first cooked them in a pan on the stove then finished them in the oven.  They were so delicious!  Finishing them in the oven was the secret, it made them sooooo juicy!  I literally prefer them to burgers - Gosh, I never thought I would say that!

So everyone weigh in yet??? how was our first week!!

I weighted in! Only one pound down from last week, so I'm a bit off track. I'm up to 11 pounds lost total though, so I'm staying positive!

Its in the right direction though!

Start Weight - 147

6/13/08 - 143.8

LOSS -  3.2 for the week :)

its probably because i weighed a lot the day i started this... i really only lost like .6 lbs from last week... but now graduation parties, etc. are over and i can start going to the gym more than just like... 3 times a week.

I have lost six lbs since i've been home from school - four more until i can go shopping :)

I hope everyone else had a good week!!

Start weight 5/19- 125

6/6- 121

6/13- 119

LOSS- 2lbs for the week!!! (normally about 1lb so this week is great!)

I started my diet on May 19 and have had about a 1-2lb loss each week.  I hope to loss more next week. It's tough because I think I am doing too much weights which is turning all of my fat into muscle and am not losing the pounds I would like. Considering that I am going to the gym about 4-6 times a week doing 30-45 min of cardio then 30-45 min of weights? I am also taking in no more than 1100 calories a day....lots of fruit veggies and meat and minimal carbs. Maybe I should be working harder??

Well....I have 14lbs to reach my goal! It'll be tough but I know I can do it!
