18 weeks pregnant with third baby and still haven't felt baby move - HELP

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone, given my particular circumstances, would you be worried?  I am 18 weeks along with my 3rd baby and haven't felt movement yet.  I've heard that you should feel it earlier the more pregnancies you've had, anyone with the same experience?  I'm really getting worried.  I have a Drs appointment this Friday but I am freaking out in the meantime, any advice appreciated.  thanks.

I read that it isn't that the movements are felt earlier, it's that the mother is more tuned into what the movements feel like and thus recognize it before a first time mother would.  18 weeks is really early to worry about this, but if you aren't going to be calm, you can call and ask to come in early, or you can buy a heart rate monitor - check craigslist for a used one or they have them at Motherhood Maternity.

With both my pregnancies I didn't feel any movement until 20-21wks. I don't recommend those foetal heart monitors as they can scare the bejeezus out of you if the baby's lying awkwardly and you can't 'find' the heartbeat. A glass of ice cold water usually worked for me!

It could be the position of the placenta.  Mine was right in the way, acting as a buffer.  Even though the baby was moving I couldn't feel it for a long time, after 20 weeks for sure.  The doctor said that the placenta was absorbing the kicks and that it was totally normal.  Good luck!

I'm 18-19 weeks and today for the first time I felt it move. BUT it was only because I was in one of those bullet elevators and I went 28 floors in a second. I felt it hit the top and sink to the bottom. I went yesterday to the OB/GYN and I watched it kick the crap out of my bladder - no placenta in the way. I didn't feel a dang thing. So I know she's alive and well but other than that I can't feel anything. Except the mild discomfort of my uterus expanding. lol.
