I have to weigh in ( in a weight loss contest) in 3 days.  What is the best, healthiest way to reduce water retention?  I can add and drop 5lbs per day according to water retention so I am looking to take advantage of hitting the low water retention weight.... Any suggestions?

The day before (or even for the next 3 days), try to eat less bulky foods, drink lots of water (and squeezing some lemon in it wouldn't hurt), and try to consume as little sodium as possible.

Drink lots of water the day before in the morning and mid-afternoon.  Then don't drink much that night or the next day until your weigh in.  Drinking lots of water the day before will let your body release the excess water

Yeah, don't drink any water for the 20-24 hours before you weigh in. Don't eat any food either. You can also try wearing a plastic bag and sweating as much as possible (eg. get in the car and drive around with the heater on).

You can lose way more than 5 pounds of water weight in a day by doing this.

And as soon as you have something to drink--it'll all come back.

Increase your intake if diuretic foods. From http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_kinds_of_food_ are_diuretics

"Diuretic foods are those that help to increase urination
Salt and Sugar retain water in the body so to eliminate this retained water through urination, you should avoid salts and sugars in your diet. They hide in the ingredients label under many different names, so get familiar with the different types of guises for salts and sugars that way you can better recognize and avoid them.

Some diuretic foods include

Water
Cranberry juice
green tea
beets
cabbage
asparagus
brussell sprouts
oats
carrots
lettuce
tomatoes
raw onions
radishes

Avoid excessive fruits and carbohydrates and fats if you are trying to lose retained water. There are also many herbs you can take that act as diuretics.

These diuretic herbs include coffee, green tea, dill, licorice, rosemary, mint, and probably many more."

Parsley is a famous diuretic.

Let us know how the weigh-in goes. Holding thumbs!

And physicsfem's advice sounds very dangerous! :0
