When to weigh in

Quote  |  Reply
Hi - I'm new. How often should I weigh myself, and when I do, how do I adjust it in here? Will my daily calorie goal change automatically? Thanks

Hey -- welcome!

Personally, I recommend weighing in only once per week -- you are less likely to drive yourself batty with scale fluctuations, that way -- however you will get suggestions for daily, monthly, yearly.... You can update your weight on your "My Account" page -- about half way down the page is the weight -- just click on update.  You can also update through the LOGs page, just click "weight log".  It will not adjust your daily calorie goal, however it will change your Burn Meter total estimate.

For some light reading on why the scale can drive you crazy: http://primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/w eight/scale.htm

Good luck!

Hi Thin27.  I am new as well.  Maybe we can try and figure this out together?

Sounds good! Thank you! I used to use a program called "Diet Power", and it was basically the same thing, but not free, and it adjusted your calorie intake for you when your weight changed or you exercised. I'm not too swift with the math!

Thanks coach_k - so does that mean I should subtract 500 calories from the burn meter and that is how much I should eat?

yes -- that's exactly what it means -- unless you will go to less than 1200 calories (the minimum a female should eat is 1200 calories) -- remember you can also exercise off some of those calories (which leaves you more to eatLaughing)

Your burn meter will change (-) as your weight changes (you burn less when you weigh less) and (+) if you add in activities

Thank you as well coach_k!  I did not understand that burn meter and why it keeps changing through out the day.  I really want to maximize my use of the website!

The important thing about your weigh in is to be consistant.  Weigh at the same time of day, wearing the same amount of clothing (or none), each time.

Weighing multiple times during the day is not a good idea because weight fluctuates up and down.  I weigh every morning, but I only record once a week.

There are some really good post about the burn meter if you search for them
