I am 5'6 and weigh 218 lbs(down from 230).  I would love to weigh 140 but would totally be satisfied just to get under 180.  Is there anyone else about the same size that can give me some good advice on things to do.  I am keeping my calories between 1200 and 1400 and have been trying to be more active.  I have always been heavy and even if I go back to 230 I would love to see what I look like skinny even if only for a week lol:-)

I'm close...I'm 5'7 and weigh 135.  I started here a year ago (July 2005) at 175 and hit my original goal of 143 in February 2006.  I've been maintaining since.  I did exactly what you're doing...calories between 1200 and 1400 and staying active.

Actually, you can go to www.mvm.com and type in your intended measurements to see what you'd look like.  It's fun.  You simply have to make this a lifetime plan.  I did it, so can you!
I'm 6'2" and am currently at 189.  Yesterday I was 187, but after a day of salty foods and not enough water consumption (plus food went in in in...and none came out out out), I'm up.  No stressing though.  I started at 284 and so aaaallllmost under a 24 for BMI :)

I started at 219, just about the same as you, and now I'm 208. I'm a guy, so my calorie goal is a bit higher - 1800-1900. It really sounds like you're on the right track - the exercise is a good thing too.
5' 4" -  current weight 190, down from 210 in January.  Goal - 130 by April 8, 2008, my 66th birthday.

5.7' Current weight is 141lbs.  My heaviest was 175lbs

5'7" - 160 pounds (as of today, yay!) with a goal of 135.

cosmo, you are already at a healthy weight for your height and age. Since you are still growing, you might work on toning instead of trying to lose weight. Toning will make your body look better; ask han! She's been toning with excellent results.

5'10 and 160, Goal is 145......excersie is only doing so much, having a hard time with dieting.

I'm in the same boat, I want to be 140, but will be happy at 160.  We will see when I get there.  Logging really helps stay on track.  I try for between 1300 and 1500 cals a day.
5'6" Weighed 215 after giving birth in December. Began here in March @ 205 with a goal weight of 140. I am 165 now. I feel excellent. I dieted very strictly at first, but now I am eating more and getting into exercising. I have to change a little at a time.
Lets see... 2 years ago I weighed 247lbs...  went down to 185 (I am 6' tall - female 48)  Quit smoking and had knee surgery  - up to 214 -  joined 2 days ago..  hoping for the best..

I started this weight loss thing about three weeks ago at 172.  I'm 5' 7" am currently at 166 and my goal is 140.

I'm hanging in there, but sometimes feel like I am not losing much for watching every single bite I put in my mouth!!
Don't you just love the beauty of an online health forum?  Only place in the world you can ask a bunch of strangers "How much do you weigh" and not get smacked.  :)
My highest weight was 348. I am now (as of this morning) 325.9. My goal
is 145 by April 8th, 2008. I don't know if it will happen, but I'm
going to try for the best. 
shanna- Hi, I'm new here and it seems like you were writing my height weight and feelings!!!!! Last Monday the 10th of July I weighed 218. Today july 18 I weigh 208!!! I am so happy. I am 49 years old and have been fat all my life. I was a  9 pound baby and I have just been  gaining ever since. I have been on many diets and I just gave up a couple of years ago. I found out 1 and a half years ago that I am diabetic and so I HAVE to lose weight. That scared me into motivation real fast. I lost 52 pounds. Went from 245 to 193. Then over the past year gained back 25 pounds. Well I got scared I do not want to go back higher. I hate the way I look,and feel. I hate how every thing is harder to do when you are fat then when you are thinner. Clothes just look like a tent. All I want to do it find clothes to "HIDE" my fat. Like nobody could see it HA!  So I have an eating plan of 3 meals and 2 snacks per day and eating 1400 calories. I walk 20 mins. 2 times a day. And I am determined to stick with it. I know if I stick with it then I have to lose weight. I look at the small victories like,"Only one more hour till my next meal and I say I can do it for just one hour. small victories. I intend to be skinny at least a little while before i get too old too enjoy it!!! That might sound bad, but I mean it. Any encouragement is appreciated Thanks
