With the Summer Challenge over, I created this thread for those who have the habit of reporting their weight to the Group.

Do you weigh in Daily?

Do you weigh in Weekly?

Do you weigh in Monthly?

Well, you can report your weight here without the feeling that you need to participate in a Challenge.

How often is best to weigh? Should you do it every day, or just once a week?

Hey Misty - There are several schools of thought on this subject and after being on CC for almost a year I've read many different views on this as well.  So I think you are going to have to answer this one for yourself - but here are some of the thoughts I've heard on the subject.

1) Weigh only once a week (or once a month) - the main reason for this is due to the daily fluctuations in your weight that could cause you to get discouraged.  Weight fluctuations are caused from fluid retention from high salt, lack of movement, time of month (TOM), or even swelling in the muscles from a heavy workout.

2) Weigh daily - this one is not good if you get discouraged easily - but can give you some good insight into how your body holds fluids and what foods cause you to hold more.  But if you are going to have a bad day because the scale shows a bump up - this is probably not for you.

3) Weigh every 6 months - 1 year (or never) - The Gabriel Method promotes to not weight at all.  Instead it promotes taking your measurements.  Those are less likely to fluctuate with waterweight and the best indicator will be a change in your clothes.  The main reason for this is because of a tendancy to let the scale decide if we are going to have a good day or not.  So, if you have a plan and follow your plan, then you should have results that will show in the way your clothes fit.

In my own journey I have found that as I've increased my exercise my weight may even go up temporarily due to gaining muscle or just swelling in my muscles, but at the same time my clothes are getting looser.  So, for me to go by the scale would not have been the best indicator that what I was doing was working. But I do still like to know the numbers - so I went for a while weighing everyday to only weighing every now and then.

I did have a CC friend warn me about not weighing often enough so not to fall in the trap of denial and gain too much without knowing it.  So, I do try to step on there every now and then just to keep in touch with reality.

So, hope that helps - basically you will want to find what works best for you - for now, and then make adjustments along the way.  Smile Lorraine

475.8 this morning

Have to admit I haven't weighed for awhile - will do so soon - my scale battery died.

Time to face the "music".  I am in such disbelief!  My eating has not changed and in fact I have been more active over the last couple of weeks with PT then I have been in a long time!  When I weighed this morning - 483.6 from Friday when I weighed 475.8.  I am in shock - what is going on?????????  When I started this journey I was at 480.6.    Embarassed

477.6 from 483.5 yesterday - what is going on?????

Giving the Lord praise - 472.2 this morning!
