Weigh Loss & Depo Shot....Need Advice!!!

Quote  |  Reply

Ok so I have been on the depo shot for about 3yrs (aug) I personally love it. When I first got on I gained 20lbs pretty quick that was Aug 2006 I managed to lose about 30 on it But ive been stuck for months I dont always eat GREAT but most week I work out 5 days a week also. I wanted to know from other ppl that may have been on depo did you have a hard time losing weight on it, I am considering stopping it for a while.... along with some of the other side effects im feeling ocasional depression, no sex drive, dizzy at times....all side effects to depo.

Hi Erica!

Dizziness hasn't happened to me (yet) but I have had experienced no sex drive and occasional depression bouts on my first round of depo and I stopped for about 6 months after that... Now I am back on it (since March- can't remember to take pills for the life of me, lol) and I seem to be okay regarding side effects... I was going to say maybe you need to give yourself time to adjust but I see that you've been on it for 3 years... Maybe try to skip a shot (if that is possible for your life) and see what happens though you having been on it for 3 years, it will take a while for it to get out of your system.

Another part could be because you don't always eat "GREAT"... What do you do for exercise?... Are you sure you are eating enough with your workouts? Sometimes that could be the problem.

I just started my healthy lifestyle on the 10th and so far I lost 5lbs but only time will tell. Sorry I couldn't help you with your original question, just know you are not alone!

I used to be on Depo.  I was on it for a year and decided to quit because of the lack of sex drive and the persistent spotting.  Surprisingly I didn't gain weight (my gyno was actually shocked and said that I was the first person she saw who didn't gain on Depo).

Anyway, I quit taking it and it took a year and a half for my period to return to normal (not sure about the sex drive), so beware, it can take a long time to get it out of your system.
