Weight Loss
Moderators: duke3522, devilish_patsy, topanga1485, nycgirl, spoiled_candy, cmillington, coach_k Do you weigh more than you 'look'?? I do.
I've ALWAYS weighed more than I look. Even as a hot 17 year old -
I was 170lbs! And I was merely out of shape-ish at that
time. Yes, I've a 'large frame'. I mean my wrist bones are
like 8inches around. I kid you not. (That Viking heritage,
remember????) Anyways - it's still frustrating. I feel so
ashamed of my 'number' all the time. On Biggest Loser 1 for
example. Kelly - she weighed less than me when she started, but
she looked MUCH bigger. Both Kelly's, actually. One of my
best friends has SO much more fat and bulk than I, yet she can wear
size 14 and I can't get into 18???? I see it time and time
again. Anyone else have this issue? Does it mess with your
mind? AND SHOPPING!?
I am told all the time "there is no way you weigh over 200 lbs!" infact, there have been several times that Ive gone to Lane Bryant to get clothes for work or jeans (their jeans fit me 100% the best out of anywhere) and the sales women will give me funny looks or comment that maybe I should go 2 stores down to Dillards. I keep getting funny looks until I go to try on an 18 or 20 and they fit me just right.
I am very tall for a woman, (6ft) and I have a large chest (38DD...and thats another one that people dont believe) and big hips and thighs, but a fairly noticable waist, so I suppose I just look "filled out" or even because Im so tall.
The problem is, though, that when I lose 20 lbs, noone notices but me. Even my husband doesnt notice. But when I gain it noone notices either.

No, but I think I look bigger than I weigh. Not in clothes, clothes hides the flab pretty well but naked, oh lordy! I am 5'2" and 125 today and I have flab up the wazoo! belly, back, butt, thighs...It drives me nuts! I also wear a bigger size pant than most woman my height and weight, go figure. Im currently in a size 7-9
I don't know. I mean, I weigh 288 lbs (heh, was 294 8 days ago when I first started here), but when I see other people around my weight or not much heavier and I think they seem to be a lot bigger than me. Of course, since I'm comparing myself there is a large margin for error, so who knows, or maybe it's where/how I carry it, I don't know.
I'm one of the lucky ones too. People literally think I'm 50lbs lighter than I am. I have a huge frame and my weight is very proportional. I know that this site says my ideal weight would be 140.. but sometimes I think I would be TOO skinny at that!
It's weird, I'm 5'5", hovering around 140, and wear size 11/12, and when I tell people they are really surprised. I'm not sure what they imagine a 12 looks like -- I havent fit into single-digit sizes since high school. I cant even imagiine wearing something as small as a 3/4.
I honestly don't know :X
195 lbs, 6'2"

Same way for me. People look at me and say "Oh, you must weigh no more than one hundred pounds soaking wet!"
Hah! I wish!

Wowee Zowee - I had no idea this topic would generate such
response! I do notice a pattern in the DD department. Yep - I'm
DD or more. Those suckers must be heavy!
And I can see that proportion must make a difference, too. I guess besides having thick/heavy bones and a lot of muscle mass (for a GIRL P-) ..) my flab is pretty well distributed. Now that I'm doing Callanetics so regularly I feel my muscle developing and pulling in, and the flab on top is more pronounced. I'll take it though - having lost at least 2 sizes.
Thanks for the input!

Hee. I guess we're lucky! At 5'8", 180 lbs, size 12, most people who dare to guess put me at 140, which is where I'd like to be. A year ago when I actually was that weight, I heard myself being referred to as "that tall, skinny blonde," more than once. It made me LOL, especially since the blonde was totally fake, and I was usually wearing 4-inch heels!
I think I distribute the weight pretty evenly, and I have a big chest: 40D checking in! Champion makes a great sports bra that is like armor. Nothing moves! :-)

just checking in agian to say I'm a 36DD too. I wonder how much of them I'll lose when I start to lose weight?
34D here, at 5'6'' and usually weigh in at 120 - people think I weigh less.
We should start a 'D' club!

I weighed about 250 a couple of months ago (down to 227-230 now!); people thought I weighed about 180. I have no explanation as to why.
About losing that chest when you lose weight...as far as I can tell, some people do, some people dont.
I can tell when my mom starts a new diet (it sounds creepy but its true) because she goes from slightly busty to nothing, then when she stops the diet she goes back to busty. She says the first place she loses it is her chest.
Me on the other hand, I can lose 30 lbs and drop only an inch or two in the bra size and never lose a cup size. Since I was 15 (Im 24 now) I have never worn anything but a D or DD and my weight has fluctuated in that time between 155 and 235. Quite a difference to only lose/gain one cup size and a couple inches:P

I feel like i'm the opposite. I'm 5'5" and 117lbs, yet I look like i'm 130. I have a small frame with very tiny wrists, but with a body fat % of 20 (I heard you're supposed to be 10?)
I put the blame on my hips!

i do - when i told my best mate in work - she nearly fell off the chair
she thought i weighed 56lbs less than what i do
that made me feel better but boy i am now going to go for it

I too am a 34DD and I embrace every minute of it. I run a lot and learned a little trick...I wear two sports bras...just smoosh them puppies in there and they don't even move a little...keeps the pain down too!

i was a 38DD now im a 34C LOL gayness, thats what u get for losing 3/4 dress sizes i guess!! Hum.. i get told i dont look 137, but i have lots of muscle i hope, bt all my weight is in my butt. Which to be honest i love, i love my big bum hehe BUUT if it wasn't for that i could get into uk 8s (USA 4)
same issues for me. i seem to be so proportional that it's hard to notice when i gain or lose. i've lost almost 25lbs and so far it's only really noticeable when i'm naked.
i can see huge differences in how things fit (no muffin tops over my jeans anymore, thighs on pants and sleeves are a lot looser) but other than my boyfriend, not many people seem to have noticed.

People are always surprised if I tell them how much I weigh. The last time I went to my doctor, I stepped on the scale and the nurse said "You don't look like you would weight that!" I was about 175 at the time. When I finally told my bf what I weighed, he was surprised too.
jeudie - I have the same problem. I think I look like I weigh more than I do. I have tiny wrists, I have a small frame but have big hips. That makes me look bigger than I am - in my eyes anyway. I also hate my thighs.
