Do males and females have different needs for water What percent of body weight that could be attributed to extra water? Hmm… sounds like a good basis for a full medical study!
Answer
We do carry 'extra' water at times for several reasons, such as excess salt intake, hormonal shifts, certain medications, humidity, a high carbohydrate intake, as well as diseases of the heart, kidney and liver. In sickness, water retention can be very high, but normal daily weight can shift a few pounds for no apparent reason and premenstrual women can gain 5 lb or so due to an estrogen surge. We encourage everyone to stay in the spirit of self-care and good health.
