What is your weigh in day/time/place? Why?

Quote  |  Reply

I was weighing in Tuesday morning first thing before my shower (work out at night).  On my bathroom scale. It sits in the same spot I just hop on.

I've recently been trying to switch to morning work outs (early before starting my day), when I do this though I'm drinking water and don't think my weight will be accurate.

I'm trying to figure out a day/time for this.  I thought I'd still try for a morning, just before I start my work out.  Maybe Sunday to start week off?

It really doesn't matter what day you pick.  I like Friday mornings because I work hardest M-Thursday and usually relax on weekends.  Weight fluctuates all the time so remember that even though you weigh yourself once a week, you could be up a few more or down a few so don't worry about each weeks weigh ins.  I like to focus on the entire months progress and then evaluate my training/deficits.

I weigh in Monday mornings, nekkid, after I've done the potty thing (may be after a cup of coffee for a full empty feeling Wink), but before brekkie and/or exercise.

I chose Monday so that it would help me stay focused through the weekend... used to work -- when I was still getting on the scale, lol.

Important thing is that it is same place/same day/same time/same clothes -- whenever possible -- helps maintain accuracy

this is one of those conversations that crops up very regularly, and most people are going to tell you this: first thing in the morning, naked, after using the bathroom.  some will even tell you that's the "right" time to weigh.

me, i weigh daily, before lunch, in my bathroom, naked.  i tend to hold a lot of water through the night and well into the morning, so a little later in the day gives me a boost.  that's worked well while i was in grad school; obviously now that i'm finished and going to work, it will have to change.  i'll shift to after work/before dinner.  convenient, because i always change my clothes when i get home from work.  it will also work well because my primary exercise time will be am, before work.

once i'm in maintenance, i'll probably stop weighing daily and go to once or twice a week (not rigid; just a guideline).

check weight daily in the am...I am on a program where you weigh daily and then average the last 7 days each weekend to get your real weight/average...then you compare those avarages over time to see your true loss...

I always weigh myself on a Saturday morning in the lounge with the Wii Fit and my husband also weighs in at the same time.  We pick a Saturday as we are both at home and its easier if we have a set day rather than trying to remember, also by doing it in the morning its done before we start doing our weekend stuff.  Also means that if you want to go out on Saturday and have lunch out you have the rest of the week to balance out your calories.

I like to record a weight every day, then average it for a weekly weight, which is what I use to chart my progress  in Excel.  I always weigh first thing in the morning, after the bathroom, before I intake anything, and in my sleepshirt.  But, since I'm home during the day, I often weigh after a bathroom visit, just to see, and often it does go down right before lunch, after I've lost some of the water retention I seem to get at night (at least, that is my theory), even with a midmorning snack, sometimes.  Afternoons, it starts creeping up, and my heaviest is right before bed.

I also keep a chart of my measurements every week, which is a more truthful account of my progress than weight anyway.  It's not that I want to weigh 145, I want to look like I am healthy, you know what I mean?

I weigh myself every Saturday morning, naked, on the bathroom scale.  It is a lot easier for me to do just before I take a shower.  I have a hard time functioning in the morning until I get a shower (I guess it is a lot like some people and coffee).  I workout at night after my kids go to bed, so I don't have to worry about that.

I weigh first thing each morning, right after the bathroom, with no clothes.  I jot the number down on a monthly log and try to ignore it (so the daily fluctuations don't make me crazy).  Each Monday I enter that day's weight in CC so that my burn meter stays more or less accurate.  Each month I log the entire month into the Hacker's Diet Excel SS, it give me a nice chart that shows a pretty good trend line and the average daily calorie deficit.  Since I am pretty religious about logging my daily calories in CC, I can then compare my monthly average calorie deficit to my monthly average calorie intake to get a pretty good idea of how much I should target for calories for the upcoming month.  Can you tell I am a geek?

dkenworthy,I wouldn't call you a geek.  I would say that you take this seriously, and there is nothing wrong with that.Wink

I weigh every morning when I wake up. It doesn't frustrate me like it does some people. I mostly do it this way because I like to see what a late night eating binge did exactly, how much it really affected things.

I weigh in Friday mornings in my bathroom on my 15 year old scale.  I was doing Sat mornings but felt like I was going out on Friday nights and all the salt in the food was affecting my weight and unfortunately that affects my moods.

Try to weigh yourself once a week, naked, right after you wake up from a good sleep, before ingesting anything. The hour itself doesn't matter.

I weigh in when I wake up, in the kitchen/dining room (that's where the scale is), after going to the bathroom. I weigh in every day, because weight fluctuations mean that if I weigh in once a week I might think I didn't lose anything, but may have actually lost a pound or two. So I just weigh in everyday and follow the trend line instead of the actual numbers.

ETA: when I say after going to the bathroom, I mean peeing. My bowel movements are too irregular to depend on them for my weigh-ins.

This is my usual morning routine:

1. Wake up.
2. Go pee.
3. Make my bed. (to give time for extra body functions to settle after peeing lol)
4. Step on scale.

This all takes place in about 8 minutes. Tongue out But I really hate it cuz it's typical of me to not have a bowel movement until 20-40 minutes after breakfast. And then since I've already eaten, it's pointless to weigh again. haha I weigh everyday to "catch" when I hit a new low number.

every morning after my morning piss

The hacker's diet, which was mentionned above by dkenworthy mentions (with a reference) that the average human solid output is 0.3 lbs, while the H20 output is something like 11lbs.  So now I don't stress out about going #2 before weighing.

For fun, I weigh myself sometimes twice a day, just to see the fluctuations, but I really only care about the morning.  After reading the hacker's diet, I totally don't stress about daily ups and downs.  I really recommend it!  You can read the whole thing online.

Every day, before my workout (usually around 9:15pm), at the gym in the office.  I used to only weigh myself naked in the morning before my shower, but I no longer own a scale.  There's a doctor's scale in the gym at work, so I figure that's more accurate then anything I could buy.

While I was dieting at college I weighed myself every Tuesday at about 7:20pm in my gym clothes and stocking feet because that's when I was at the gym for a Karate class and had access to a scale.  Now that I'm home from college I think I'll stick with Tuesdays, but weigh in the mornings in my pjs (which are about the same weight as my gym clothes) because I'm much more sedentary at home.

Kind of like flybee I like to weigh myself several times a day.  Our scale is in the bathroom so after a potty break I step on the scale in all my clothes and see how much my weight has fluctuated.  It's actually quite interesting and I can handle seeing numbers rising while I'm trying to lose. :)
