I had hoped to lose more this weigh in, but I suppose my lack of structure camping this weekend could have ruined me.

Down 1 pound since last Thursday.

Dovie,

Your entry is confusing.  LW is last weight.   So that makes it look like you gained 5 pounds last week.

Congrats on losing one pound in an unstructured environment.

Ibeckforme;

I only live about 5hrs away in Nevada. So I get to got pretty often. I once lived in Wisconsin. So I know what the contrast is for you. I was stationed in San Diego (Dago) in the Navy for almost 20yrs. So I tend to take it for granted. It is beautiful there, but very costly to live there.  I sold my home there in '89 and it was recently on the market for 7 times what I sold it for in '89. Oh well. Hind sight is always 20/20

Genowg,

My son-in-law is back in college after being in the navy the past 8 years.  He and my daughter bought in downtown San Diego on the tip of the "bubble' and are now upside down in their condo.  They will live there for a very long time I fear.  Timing is everything isn't it?  I do enjoy visiting her but it is a costly trip.  She just passed the bar last spring and is employed there, so I think maybe I will never get her back to the midwest, but I guess we will always have a nice place to vacation.  My husband and I have thought of retiring in Nevada, but we are about 10 to 14 years away from that....5 hours I could handle, at least we could meet for dinner sometimes.  Thanks for the shout outSmile

Sorry, texmom. I thought it was lowest weight. I get the two confused almost every time. Foot in mouth

Hi Texmom, Yes it is!  Isn't she just the cutest!!

I just love your little tulip, what a cutie pa-tootie!

Only lost 2 ounces this week but it is a loss not a gain so it's all good! Pretty sure it has something to do with Halloween (the pasta, the chili, the cheesecake...). I opted to give myself a "splurge day". Definitely ate more than any other day but far less than I did last year.  Feeling pretty great!

Hi I am new to CC and would like to join this group I have a lot of weight to lose but I think with the help of this site I can do it. My first week went really smooth which for starting a diet has never happened to me, so here is my first week weigh in

24 pounds lost...wow! I am thinking that this is going to stop shortly... I found out today I am pregnant which is a good thing, although my husband and I were not trying....

I guess I will talk to my doctor shortly and see what they say...  As for now I am going to continue eating towards the higher ranger of my 1600 verses the lower range near 1400.....

Ellen

Congratulations Ellen!!!! So when are you due?

I have to tell you that pregnancy was the best weight loss plan I had ever been on. I always weighed less after the baby was born than before I got pregnant. Most of that I contribute to the fact that I was gestationally diabetic and if I wanted to avoid insulin (which I did) I had to really monitor my food intake and control the amounts, etc of what I ate. I was eating a balanced, calorie controlled diet and therefore lost weight. All of my babies (3) were born healthy.

Bruce - did you really lose 12 pounds in one week or was that a two week figure? Either way - wow!!!!! Keep coming and talking to us and if you need any help just give a shout out and someone will answer. This is the most supportive, friendly group of people I have encountered in a long time.

Somebody help me with the math here.   My "Eat Meter" is 1900  and my "Burn Meter" is 2570...How many calories do I need to eat to lose 2 lbs a week?

I was staying at around 1050 to 1150 per day..I totally blew it the last couple of days (1700 and 1800) but am going to get back into better eating tomorrow.

I just kind of need a calorie intake guide to lose 2 lbs a week..The only exercise I get is walking into and out of work - walking to the cafeteria at work and up and down stairs at home a couple of times a day.

Hi lyntex - your eat meter is designed to tell you how much to eat to lose 1-2 lb per week, which involves a deficit of around 700 cal / day. So if you're burning 2570 calories a day, 1900 is reasonable. 1700 and 1800 are both fine; 1050-1150 is too low - an adult woman needs at least 1200 cal / day for healthy body function. If you can't lose weight at 1900 try 1800 or 1700, but keep it gradual. Do you have your activity level set to sedentary?

Ellen, congratulations! That's so exciting!

I agree that pregnancy was my best weight loss friend. I weighed 40 pounds less after it was all said and done simply because I forced myself to eat what was best for the baby and not everything I wanted. The morning sickness helped in the worst way possible, too. >.<

I'll tell you what my midwife told me when I went in for the first time. The bigger you are, the less they'll want you to gain. I expect your doctor will tell you between 15 and 20 pounds max. Most of that will be in the third trimester. Doctors also tell you that you shouldn't "diet" the way our mothers used to diet. Don't try intentionally to cut calories. My midwife said that you need roughly 500 extra calories a day just to maintain your weight while pregnant. Your doc will most likely suggest you add 500 calories to what you're already eating. And exercise is...interesting while pregnant. Nothing too jarring for the baby and don't get your heart rate too high. I swam between 1 and two hours a day during my last trimester. Most of it was just treading water, though. The pressure relief off my back was enough to keep me in the water as long as humanly possible. haha

Sunnim,

That was my total for the first week. I am sure most of it was water weight but either way I will take it. I do not expect it to be very high this week but I am working hard at getting healthy this time and I am so excited that it is already starting to pay off.

Bruce - I agree - I would take the scales telling 12 pounds down too - no matter what it came from!!!! As long as your expectations for next week are healthy you should be excited about this week. If you haven't already seen it - take a look at the motivations post my ibeckforme - it is fantastic! We all have so many reasons why we are on this journey and they all include some rendition of wanting to not only be thinner but also healthier.

Welcome to the group! Let us know if you need anything.
