Weight Loss
Moderators: duke3522, devilish_patsy, topanga1485, nycgirl, spoiled_candy, cmillington, coach_k when do you weigh yourself?
I range from 119 to 124 throughout the day. How do I know what is the accurate weight? I know I want to loose 5 pounds- but I get confused on from what number.
Also a friend told me not to weight myself everyday- just once a week- so should I avoid the wight log on here 6 days a week?
Thanks!

Weighing is a personal thing.
I weigh every morning... Nude after I have my morning pee.
If you weigh every day at the same time same way, that is what I go by.
Water and food can make your weight fluctuate by many pounds.

I always weigh myself in the morning, completely nude. I think the key is to weigh at the same time. Once a day is plenty or every other day. On a healthy diet it usually takes about 3 days to lose one pound . Obsessive weighing only causes frustration fo me. GOOD LUCK!
I weigh myself once a week, on Sundays, after I brush my teeh and do my bathroom stuff - but also before I eat.
Generally it's "common practice" to weigh yourself once a week, the same day, around the same time to get a "true" weight b/c of fluctuations due to water (especially in women). However, that doesn't seem to be the norm with the 2 people that posted above.
It's basically what your comfortable with. I wouldn't suggest weighing everyday. It can be quite traumatizing, like you've noticed. I would suggest weekly. Plus, it's always more fun to see your weekly losses...instead of .2 one day, .1 the next, 0 the next. Wouldn't you just like to see -2 instead? I do.

i probably weigh myself more than i should, but it's mostly out of curiosity.
i agree with canadianchick- nude after the morning pee. but i also check after dinner to see how many pounds all the food and water add to the equation.

I weigh only on Sundays in the morning after I pee in the nude. Sometimes I weigh on Thurdays to see my mid way point.
I weigh once per week at the gym (no scale in my house). In the morning, before eating or drinking anything but while wearing my spinning clothes. I figure, as long as I am wearing the same thing more or less, my weights compare accurately.
For your goal I would say just accept that you will always have a range b/c of water weight and whatnot. So your goal would be to range from 114 to 119. I didn't check your bmi, but at 5'-2" that seems pretty good.

oops, repost
Like clockwork...wake up, pee, strip, weigh...
Weighing daily is good if you can handle it mentally...it seems to make some people a little crazy...

I weigh myself every Wednesday morning. First thing when I wake up after going to the bathroom and of course nude..
I always weigh in the morning after I wake up, first thing after I potty, and nude. I think that is indicative of your most natural body weight.
At night time your weight is altered by food that you've eaten and not digested, clothes you have on, water you've drank, etc.

Yeah, I am 5'2" and would LOVE to be anywhere near your current weight range...I don't think I would even be sweating 5 lbs! I need to lose 75 lbs to get where you are...
~~ I weigh every morning Butt Naked ~~
I can't help it I just gotta see.. ~~
every day in the morning after all the nessasaries are taken care of. It is mentally tough but you learn that there is a lag time to the things you do to control your weight. It nice to use the log in weight feature on the website as it gives you a running average weight which is less stressfull. DAN
I am scared of weighing myself everyday and maybe that's why I don't own a scale, but I will buy a scale this weekend and try to weigh myself maybe twice a week only.
Every morning, in my shorts only, and after my pee.
We recently bought a new scale that measures in tenths of a pound. It's interesting and instructive to weigh yourself both before and then after a pee to learn just how heavy water is and how much of your daily weight fluctuation is totally due to the water.

Nude, in the morning AFTER I pee, before my first glass of water.
Yeah... I'm probably a little dehydrated and not getting a real weight... but it FEELS so good to weigh 154 rather than the 156 I'll weigh after my shower and glass of water. ;-)
No earrings, hair trimmed, eyebrows plucked, no cosmetics, lungs expelled... ROFL How many of us breathe out just before the scale measures?

I weigh every morning naked after I pee. I don't really like weighing just once a week because I can't tell if it's a fluke weigh. Example, last Friday I weighed in at 218lbs. That night I ate tons of chips and didn't drink enough water. Saturday morning I weighed in at 224lbs. Now if I hadn't weighed on Friday, I would have freaked right out and thought I gained that much weight! Because I know from day to day what I actually weigh, I can see what attributes to water weight.
If you are watching your sodium and water intake and aren't too impatient, you should be able to weigh yourself daily without the mental hazards. If you aren't paying attention to your sodium and what you're drinking, or if you're the kind of person who HAS to see results.... maybe just stick to once a week and try to drink tons of water the day before to get the most accurate of weights. :)

I used to weigh every morning before breakfast, but I got depressed easily if my weight had stayed the same or gone up (even if I knew the fluctuations were just water weight). So weighing every third morning is best for me, I usually get to see some sort of loss and that helps keep my motivation up.
HAHAHAHAHA cmillington!!! I always exhale, too! Not that the AIR in my lungs possibly weighs a pound or two, but it makes me feel better :)
With weighing yourself you need to have a consistent system. If you weigh yourself at all different times and at all different conditions many factors, aside from your weight loss, are affecting your weight number. These could be whether you had too much soduim that day, you have your period and so on. Just think of a system that will provide consistency for weighing yourself. That way you will see your "true" number and weight loss...
Personally I weigh myself every 3 to 7 days. Normally I would do once a week but since I am "dieting" I have been losing weight faster than normal. But my system is to weigh myself, naked, in the morning, before I eat anything, before my shower and after I use the toilet. Also, I do not weigh myself directly before, during or after my period because I know I am so bloated that it is going to give me a false weight number.
