Weighing every day?

Quote  |  Reply

I am just curious to who weighs themself every day?  I am guilty of this and sometimes I am happy I do (right after a work out, or first thing in the morning), then other times it discourages me SO much!  I am just curious to who else does this?

I do (and here's why).

Others prefer once a week, or even less. But you just need to find what works for you. My rule of thumb - if you can take a 2lb change (either gain or loss) in stride, and just focus on your trend line, you can weigh every day. If you get depressed when it goes up a little, or excited when it goes down (only to get depressed when it goes back up), you might need to not weigh as often.

Amethystgirl, that is the PERFECT response. Great advice!

I have to admit if I see a scale I usually step on it.  I then start to analyze where I am at and if I am reaching my goal.  One thing I always keep in mind is that my waist size is far more important to me than my actual weight.  So if my clothes begin to become loose that is a huge positive.  Hang in there look for positive things.

Guilty!!! I'm not a person that should weigh in daily. I don't deal with the hills and valleys very well. As Amethyst said, if you are ok with the fluctuations go for it! I was following the rules and showed a 2 lb weight increase and it threw me off the wagon for a couple of days. Today is my first day climbing back on.

I also keep my scale in the kitchen so that when I feel tempted to snack inappropriately, its sitting there, staring at me, daring me to mess up!

I like to weight myself every day. I don't get discouraged if it stays the same or goes up. It only makes me push harder. If it goes down, well that's a dance of joy and the start of a beautiful day.

great i am happy to find a group who weighs themselves everyday becuz i seen no that i do it for motivation up or down always motivated...good...

Each monday morning after going to the loo,and before bf..i jumped on the scale.

dont be a slave to the scales guys..

I do because I read that people who weigh themselves daily lose more then those who don't.  It took me a long time to stop obessing though.

 Yes - this.....

Every day.  Same reasons as amethystgirl and yogagirl.  Those girls are great!

Yes, I weigh every day, just to keep a constant handle on it.

every day. I only log once a week, though. I'm up 4 lbs today. Did it bum me out? yeah, a little at first. am I worried about it? no. Its impossible for all 4 of them to be real. MAYBE one of them. They're fakers. heh.

Once a day, first thing in the morning, and take an average for the week. I don't freak with the fluctuations because I know that 90% of the time I'm maintaining my goal deficit. I've found the other 10% when I go over while socializing with friends doesn't really impact the big picture.

I weigh everyday but I found out that I have to wait about a hour after getting up to get a accurate reading. I retain water and usually within a hour I am good to weigh in. But everyone is diferant do what makes you feel most compfortable doing.

I weigh every day because it helps me to NOT be hung up on the numbers.  I weigh several times a day sometimes.

By weighing myself often I see patterns and know that I weigh more after exercise, I weigh more in the evening, I weigh the least amount at 5 am, my weight does not significantly flux with food or using the bathroom and I have a 3 day plateau cycle.   I will weigh xxx for 3 days and then lose a little on the 4th and gain a little on the 5 and lose a little more on the 7th - and there I stay for 3 days.

 Madam Q, thats me exactly!

I weight everyday cause I use it as a base for how I will eat the next day. IF I gain a pound or two I eat the same tomorrow as I did today. if I lose a bit I eat just a tad bit more or I have a bag of popcorn as a reward.

Seems on the days eat a tad more I lose a bit more but then it eventually catches up and I add a bit. But I usually lose more than I gain so it's still working out for me as losing weight.

6 weeks - 25lbs

I weigh every day and have no issues with it. It helps me follow the trend line and worry LESS about fluctuations.

I have been steppping on the scale about every day, but have only been logging it weekly if that.

I think I'm going to change that thanks to amethystgirl Maybe that's why I have been so unsuccessful every time it's time to maintain.

I also weigh everyday, and find that it reduces the stakes on the number because it fluctuates up and down a little, and I can usually point to water retention as the culprit if it goes up.  If I only weighed once a week, it would actually seem as if that number would have higher stakes, and it would be hard to see the trend.

Every day habits are easier to maintain for me than sporadic habits, whether it is eating right, exercising, flossing, or weighing.
