Weighing every day?

I am just curious to who weighs themself every day?  I am guilty of this and sometimes I am happy I do (right after a work out, or first thing in the morning), then other times it discourages me SO much!  I am just curious to who else does this?

This x2. xD But I don`t make a religion of it, I can go for days without it if I forget or I have a hectic morning. My main reason for weighing regularly is not fear of gain (I can spot that early on, from the way clothes fit), but fear of loss. I am on the low end of the healthy BMI and I wouldn`t want to accidentally slip into the underweight zone and spend a while there.

Yes, paranoia, I know, but at least it`s somewhat constructive.. I hope.

I do - every AM at the same time - then I log it sometime during the day - I think it clearly shows what causes ups and downs (read:  sodium and mexican restaurants).

It's just part of my morning routine, take about 4 seconds - why not?

The real important issue in weighing yourself is not to obsess or to focus about it too much. Some people take it as a mere statistic data and to some people it means more than that. So while I'd weigh myself every morning for better stat and what not, go for what is okay with you. What ever that's comfortable.

 

And just to throw it in there, I feel tape measurement is more accurate.

i am doing this and find it good for me - i am a person who thrives in tracking things, writing numbers down, etc. i understand this varies greatly and some prefer weekly weigh ins. for me, this helps to stay on track and alsoi like seeing the trendline going down.

also for some, gaining a lb can be frightening and they tend to obsess over it, so they do better by weiging in weekly - just as with food and a million other things, the frequency of weighing oneself is probably something that people perceive differently and different things work for them

Sometimes you will actually be relieved to see the scale not move, or even go up, because you find that there is an actual consequence to your actions previously.  Weighing daily puts a consequence to every action.  The great part about it is every new day you have the choice to improve upon the last, no matter weight gain/loss.

I also weigh myself daily. Just like many above me mentioned, I thrive on seeing the numerical data. Even if it fluctuates, it still gives me motivation to continue. Getting in shape is an important part of my life, and weighing myself every day doesn't freak me out one bit.

 Just keep in mind that many times a temporary weight gain has more to do with water retention or other factors rather than consequences of eating bad. When weighing myself everyday I tend to see a pattern where I may gain a pound and then lose 2 in a week period. That temporary one pound weight gain has nothing to do with consequences to actions, just a temporary fluctuation.   

i use to but now that i wake up and I'm out quicker than I can go to the bathroom (#2) I only weigh myself on fridays or if by some chance I went to the bathroom before I left for work. 

I am so far along in my weight loss (about 29 pounds down), I understand the fluctuations and I don't freak out about the scale as much.  I can feel my clothes fitting differently and that is enough for me. 

Also, if I weigh myself and I'm not happy with it, I don't log it.  I pretend it never happened and I look to the next day.  That kept me motivated...for example " well today I weigh 150.5 but yesterday I weighed 149.5  I KNOW I can weigh 149.5..." and then I'd see what the deal was the next day.  Obviously if you notice you are heading up it's time to change things but generally, the important thing is that you are heading downwards...it may not be everyday but as long as its the trend.

I weigh myself every day to make sure I know what my body is doing and how it is reacting to my calorie intake. If I see my weightloss slow down, sometimes I up my calories a bit to see if it will make the numbers come down again. It has happened a few times now!

I weigh myself every morning, but I also only log once a week. It lets me know I am doing ok each day, but it there is a big jump I watch what I eat a little more and work out a bit longer. I love it when numbers go down but am ok if they go up. I just use it to keep myself in check.

I enjoy watching the fluctuations.  I like to look at weight change as it relates to my stress level, my cycle, what I've been eating, how I've been exercising, etc.  I try not ever to get too hyper about it.  But I do weigh at least once a day.  And I seriously wonder if anyone isn't guilty of doing a before and after on a particularly excessive #1 or #2.  It's gross, but hey, so am I.  LOL.

I have to weigh every day because my weight and blood pressure are being electronically monitored for a research study.  A computer reads the scale and blood pressure cuff and I can see the log, which is monitored by a nurse who is in touch with my doctor.  The purpose is to keep me out of congestive heart failure and out of the hospital.  A jump in weight or BP indicates fluid retention which can be corrected with medication if caught early.

There are disadvantages to this.  It's upsetting to see fluctuations that look like I'm gaining, even though I know I'm not.  I get around this hangup by only logging my weight on CC twice a month.  That gives me a truer picture of my progress.

I've gone back to weighing in every day, and updating it on CC weekly

I used to  weight pretty much daily years ago, for a long time, and was great at maintaining a healthy weight Then a bad weekend 'skip' turned into some work travel skips...which ultimately led to months without checking in - -and each time it went months in between, I gained a big number, got freaked out, and continued with the bad trend. Then I would get totally scared of the growing 'big' number that needed to be lost. Granted, I would go through dieting phases here and there where I would go a few months and weigh more regularly. But then each time I had a bad few days or weeks, I would start the whole cycle again...and gain it all back plus more. I went all of last year without getting a scale and almost fell over when I discovered that I had gained 25 pounds since the last doc's appt the previous year. Talk about a big number that grew into a huge number...

That's it - - I just need to accept that this is what I personally need to stay on top of little gains spiraling into much larger ones. Period. No options. I need this to be part of my routine, just like brushing my teeth in the morning! There have certainly been bad days or bad weekends since starting CC in February. But guess what, if I catch in quickly, its much easier to mentally get back on track. Not rocket science, but I just can't block it out and hope to lose weight before getting back on a scale. I need to own the full package - the ups, the downs, the plateaus, all of it.

so in that article with the 3 lb MAX should that go for gaining or losing once in maintenance amythistgirl in your opinion... just curious.

Every day!  I lost 85# after my pregnancy.  In a "relaxed" year, I gained a pound a month by not watching the scale as closely.  Now the scale is in my kitchen on the floor in front of the pantry doors!  I'm slowly creeping back down to my previous smallest weight, but I will not let myself go 2 days without weighing.  I need the numbers to remind me that I don't want anything out of that pantry. 

I weigh every day.  For me, there's just too much pressure and too many expectations put upon a weekly weigh in, whereas I don't expect to see a loss every single day no matter how good I've been.  I expect to see fluctuations.  Plus, it's nice to see the patterns.  I tend to stay around the same weight for a week or 2 and then the number suddenly drops.  I started a new workout regimen last week and my muscles were sore, so I knew I would see a bit of a gain, and I did.  In fact, my weight hasn't dropped since I started it, but fortunately I happened to have taken my measurements right before I started, and in those 2 weeks, though the scale hasn't registered a drop, all my measurements have gotten smaller, which is very cool.

I weigh 2-3 times a week, at the same time every morning but only on days I feel like it. I have recovered from anorexia and am now trying to lose an extra 5lbs I gained over my ideal weight. (My BMI is 21.7 so my goal is not unhealthy). But weighing myself every day leads me to weight and food obsession.

Just do whatever works for you. I often suggest that people new to dieting weigh less often because they often seem to be very discouraged by fluctuations.

But if daily weighing keeps you on track and doesn't lead to obsessive behaviour, all props to you :)

I have done both.  There for a while, I literally made my husband hide the scale from me because if I had an drastic downward fluctuation (not real) I would be ECSTATIC.  But on the flip side when I had a drastic upward fluctuation (also not real) I would be devastated.  I focused on exercise and nutrition for a while--and then when I thought I was ready I broke the scale back out. 

Now I weigh every day first thing--and the time I took to focus on the exercise and nutrition helped me to obtain a more positive outlook and now I can look at those fluctuations each day and not read too much into them.  In fact, most of the time I can pretty much know where the fluctuations are going to be because of what I've eaten the day before.  I think you really have to force yourself to look at those numbers in a healthy objective manner.  If you let them rule what kind of day you are going to have--maybe you should not weigh every day.

exactly. i know for some people daily weighing makes them all jittery so they better avoid it. for me it is good - if i am at home i do it daily and am very satisfied
