Weighing yourself

Quote  |  Reply
I have a question for everyone. When you weigh yourself, how much do you take off if you are fully clothed? When I was weighed at the gym, the person there took off 3 lbs. Is that accuratein everyone's opinion? Thanks!

I just weighed myself this morning with a light house-coat on, then I took it off and re-weighed. I lost 2 pounds!

Try to do this at home,  weighing with clothes on and off, then you'll have an idea how much to take off at the gym.
I do it buck naked first thing every morning.  I don't want any extra weight on me!
I do the same thing, naked every morning. I have a scale that measures body fat too and the specs say to weigh in the buff for a more accurate reading, however I have measured the difference in the past and for me it is 3-5lbs for clothes.
angel g.h., love that 2-pound housecoat! Whatcha got in the pockets---rocks:):)???  I think my pajamas definitely weight at least 5 pounds:):)...Yes, I agree, nekkid as a jaybird first thing in the a.m.   I put in my contacts (to reduce glasses weight), and weigh before having coffee, because I bet I guzzle at least 32 ounces of that divine brew...
Ya gotta do the naked thing to get an accurate weight.
And..  I always wear the same clothes to the Doctor's office so I
get a consistant weight there too.
got to get up, go to the bathroom, get the coffee started, give kids some OJ, go down to the other bathroom(where the scale is) try to go to the bathroom one more time before weighing.  Strip down, even take my hair down!  Same routine every morning!
Me too slappy....That is what I do except I have two of the same scales.  One is in my bedroom and one is in the bathroom if someone is in the bathroom I just head to the bedroom.  I don't do it every morning but pretty darn close it keeps me in check with myself.
WOW I'm shocked....everybody who has posted so far on this thread appears to be obsessed with their scales!!!  (My opinion only).

I get weighed once every 4 weeks and I only take off my shoes and jacket.  I don't allow anything for clothes.  At the end of the day, the scales are just a guide and should be used as benchmark to see how much weight you're losing over a period of time.

My weigh in is normally just after my period so I am not carrying any pre-menstrual fluids.  My clothes getting too big for me (or rather me getting too small for them) is the best feeling in the world.

My advice - don't let the scales rule your life.  They are only a guide, use your clothes or how well your skin looks or how much more energy you have as an indicator of how well you're doing.
Oh trust me I don't allow the scale to rule my life.  Somedays is higher then others and I figure out why and normally it is due to sodium.  I really actually only count my Thursday weight towards my goal.  I basically  use the scale in a way that helps me learn to control my diet.  I firmly believe most days it is water weight due to sodium but it keeps me in check with myself.  I don't let it get me down.  Also if I don't happen to weigh in for a couple of days I don't let it bother me.  It is just like logging calories and activities.  I monitor my weight.
You know, I was thinking this yesterday. I weighed myseld on Tuesday and it said 200.  Just for giggles, I weighed myself yesterday and it read 198!!

The only thing that changed was that I was wearing my sweats, shoes and a long sleave shirt on tuesday and some light sweats, no shoes and T Shirt on Wednesday.

I think I'll just buy a scale at home so I can do the Nekkid thing :-)

Whooo Hooo...naked as a Jaybird for me!!!!

:-)
I wear a cami and underware- "boyshorts" because I've found they don't weigh enough to change anything
We have a medical scale in a small conference room at work. In the morning before eating I put the "do not disturb" sign on the door and strip down to weigh myself.

There's no lock on the door, so I really hope everyone respects the sign!
Thats very brave of you, secret_squirrel! Sounds like something I would do if I didn't have scales at home lol!! I think I have been a little obsessed with the scales of late, if I put on even just 1lb I feel so much fatter than before! I guess the good side is that if you lose a bit you feel fabulously thin :). I find scales are a real motivator for me, something a little more concrete than perhaps energy levels or skin tone...
i have been obsessed with weight myself in the past and i threw out my
scale.  Now i weigh myself at the gym on the very accurate dr.
scale in the locker room.  That way i have to go to the gym to
find out what i weigh and i would feel guilty to just go to weigh
myself so i work out then too.. :)  This works really well for
myself and i only weigh about 3 times a week..
I weigh myself first thing in the mornings buck naked.  It's recommended to weigh yourself at approximately the same time each time you go in to weigh.  And I don't recommend weighing before you go to bed!!!  YIKES!!!!

And yeah, the scale is just a number; but, it helps to curb any potential weight gain by doing it frequently.  When you see the numbers rising, it's time to start getting strict again!  Works for me.
I use my scale as a diet aid.  (I have it in my kitchen next to the frig). I see the scale every time I go to get anything out of the frig. and that rememinds me to watch the calories. Yes I do weigh every morning, but with all my clothes and shoes on.  You may ask why?  I do that because that is the way people see me. I like knowing how much of me they are seeing.
weighing yourself on a daily basis is, in my opinion smart.

considering, if you weigh a little over, you know you can work on it that day, step up and eat a little better, a little more balanced, kicking your metabolism a little higher, resulting in amped up metabolism while sleeping, so the following day you will hopefully, and most likely see result.

but that's just my personal opinion. agreeable, and disagreeable.

I agree with obsidyan - I go to the gym to weigh in!  I do it every Friday as that is my day I relax on all the diet.  I don't go nuts, but I don't stress out either if I have a glass of wine with dinner or popcorn at the movies!  That way I HAVE to work out on Fridays as well to compensate AND I have a whole week to undo any damage - little strategy goes a long way I find! I weigh myself fully clothed as I am so NOT an exihbitionist!  Shy! Very shy!
I have to weigh every morning because I check for sudden weight gain, which means water retention.  I record this for my doctor.  I also take my own blood pressure each day.  If I see a combination of higher than normal blood pressure and a weight gain compared to the day before, I call the doctor to adjust my medication.  And that medical reason is the only reason I weigh every day.

On the other hand, I record my weight on my weight chart here at calorie counter, once a week.  There is too much day to day fluctuation so weekly is better.

I weigh when I get up in the morning wearing only my nightie, after I go to the bathroom.  I'm seeing the doctor this afternoon and it will be interesting to see if is scale is the same as mine, so I'll weigh just before I leave in the same clothes.  That's just out of curiosity.

WOW, I seem to be the opposite of everyone else here! I would never never weight myself naked and I like to weight myself at night. I want to see what my heaviest weight is, I feel that if I saw what I was at my lowest weight and then saw a heavier weight with clothes on or at night, I will be disappointed and get discouraged. So when I say what my weight is, it's with clothes on in the evening, after dinner.
