Weight & Clothes Size

Quote  |  Reply

I currently bounce between size 12 and 10 and weigh 175.  I would like to be able to wear a size 10 comfortably, which is between 155 and 160.  However, most weight loss sites I've gone to say I should weigh between 136 and 145.  I haven't been that skinny since high school.

Should I go with the experts or stick to my own weight loss goal. I don't want to be the same size as my daughter (lol).

Stick with your own goals - when you reach 155-160, you can see how you look and decide what you need.

How tall are you?

How tall are you?

the size you wear is determined by your body SHAPE, not your weight.  I am the same weight I was a year ago, and yet 2 sizes larger in clothes -- because I have not been exercising for almost 6 mos...

furthermore -- where you purchase the clothes can also make a difference to the size.

Get to the point where you look and feel good based on YOUR (and your physician's) determination.

Here is where I might get some flack.  I am 5' 5.5" tall, and weigh 156 lbs.  One day, I fit into a "small" sized jacket, but most of the time I'm a "medium".  I have a size 8 blouse, but it's not comfortable (too small in the arms! of all things).

My rear end seems to be the best place for me to judge my size.  Right now, my a** fits into a size 14.  Woo Hoo, it used to be a 2XX!  My daughter who is now 29, weighs more than I do, but yet she can wear a size 12!!!!!!!!!  What's up with that?

I don't know if there's a reasonable explination for weight loss and/or sizes.  I don't let the size tag label me.  I am who I am.  Without knowing, I would say that you are about 5'8"ish.  (God, please let my height catch up with my weight!)

Honestly, you seem to be in the same boat I am. Im about 5'9 and the sites I've gone to say the same thing. So does the FDA for BMI. like 136 is my lowest weight, 164 my highest. But those are really unrealistic and seriously insane. Those types of charts are for the general public not individuals. You should really talk to your doctor about an appropriate weight for your body type. My doctor says my lowest weight should be 150, highest 175 which is more realistic for me. I was 154 and he actually got scared because my weight was so low. I've since leveled off to about 169 although I waiver from 160-170. Anywhere between a size 8-10/12 depending on the brand.

Really, it's up to you and the weight you feel is realisitic for your body frame and composition. Ultimately, consult your physician.

My best friend is 4 inches taller than me, 40 lbs slimmer, and we wear close to the same size.
I'm like you, when I weighed 150-160, I wore a size 9/10. And I'm only 5'4
My family jokes that my bones are made of lead : )
actually, I have an hourglass shape and I distribute my weight well. I also have a 'stockier build' and gain/maintain a decent amount of muscle mass easily. I have never been below anything but the highest end of my 'healthy BMI' even when working out, being healthy, having visible hip bones/collar bones, and such. So yeah, I assume I'm just built different, and I make my own goals accordingly : )

I am 5'5-1/2" tall.

I'm 5'7, 191.5 pounds and I wear a US size 12-14 pants and a size large top... of course every store is different, but that's the majority. When I weighed 160 pounds I wore a US size 6-8 and a medium top.

How can I make walking fun?

You have to find a way to make exercise fun or else you won't do it. If you walk indoors on a treadmill, I recommend moving outdoors into the fresh air... Read more
