20 Pounds of weight destroyed. . .
Well - 20 pounds gone. I feel great. 20 pounds since January 2nd seems, well - not possible, and unhealthy - but I've been eating very healthy and My calorie deficit is always within 500 - 1000 calories of my baseline burn. And I feel better than ever. I could hardly stand up after being on my Knees giving my son a bath or playing with him - Now I stand up with no problems. My joints feel great , I feel great.
What I attribute to my success
#1 - Diet change and eating breakfast. I believe breakfast has had a huge impact on my weight loss. My breakfast is high fibre, and very healthy. Oatmeal and blueberries - that's it.
#2 - Meal Frequency - 6 Meals a day. Breakfast, Snack, Lunch, Snack, Supper. For my snacks - it can be fruit, yogurt, protein shake . . . just something to keep my body working and burning.
#3 - Water and Fibre . . . my diet is high in fibre (close to 30g a day,) and water - LOTS of water. All my fibre is from my food. Oatmeal, tomato sauces, fruits, whole grains . . .
#4 - Fish Oil - Omega 3's - Read up on it. Quite amazing what the stuff is capable of. From fat loss, heart benifits, joint pain reduction, and more. I take 2 1000mg capsules with each of my 3 larger meals per day. I also take about 3 glucosamine pills, 1 good multivitamin a day.
# 5 - Protein - I'm a believer that those fad diets will not work in the long run, Low carb etc. But I also like to shoot for a 40/40/20 mix of carb, protein and fat.
basically - Eat less, Eat better, move more. If you've got extra weight on you, chances are it's a result of what you've eaten, and how little you've moved.
Keep working at it - if you "fall off the wagon." track those calories as well, and just jump back on. Takes about 3500 calories to equal another pound of bodyweight . . . so chances are one meal or 2 won't ruin your entire week.
My typical Daily Menu :
Oatmeal and blueberries
Yogurt
Protein Shake
Lunch of whole wheat pasta, 1 cup of peas, 1 cup of Tomato sauce, and a protein source. (Chickin, Tuna, turkey, whatever.)
Protein Shake
Supper (a couple nigts ago was Salmon and potatos, last night - turkey a la king and a side of peas, sunday - turkey dinner.)
Before supper I'm usually up to around 1200 calories or so . . . I now weight 181, started at 201. Started my goal at 1800 calories a day, now my goal is 1700.
Excercise - just some basic strength stuff - pushups, situps, and rubber band workouts . . . I'll have to step all of this up quite a bit in order to reach my goals though.
Questions?
Big helps have been counting calories here

A protein Shake . . . just whey protein . . . I mix it with water. Mine is a 35g serving, 30 g protein - 130 calories. You can buy it at any fitness store, WalMart, Costco . . . Helps balance things out.
Yes - That's exactly what I'm saying. My Christmas and Newyears time was lots of pigging out, high sodium etc - So I have no doubt I was probably retaining a lot of water. Nevertheless - I was always around the 195 198 196 range for months before that.
As mentioned at the start of my post . . . seems like my results should not be possible . . . Well - not possible doing it healthily at least.
Maybe I need a disclaimer * results not typical.
To add to the protein Shake thing . . . I've got a few female friends who are doing the same . . . though they're building muscle and want to minimize muscle loss during their sleeping time . . . so they have a protein shake before bed.
Thanks for the Kind words. And yes - to restate myself - I am very aware that my results are not typical.
I'm down to 180 today . . . I treated myself with one of my favorite meals last night - Breakfast sausage and eggs . . . God I love fried pork products. haha.
My weight loss has definitely slowed down, and I need to start adding some physical fitness to my routine.
Do you get indigestion or anything from the fish oil tablets? I've read how wonderful they are and am a huge fan of salmon, but I'm always burping up fish later (gross!) so I've been hesitant to buy any fishy supplements.
Any specific brands you are fond of?
Hello - Regarding the Fish Oil Tablets . . . No - I'm fine with them . . once in a while I may get one or 2 burps . . . but whatever - doesn't bug me. Though I hear it can be bad for some.
I've read on multiple forums that there are 2 things you can do to stop those burps.
1) Freeze your pills. take them frozen.
2) Buy a pill that's coated. Usually says "Enteric" coated or something like that. What this does is stop the pill from breaking down until it's in your upper intestine, so you're not supposed to get the burps.
I'd suggest to try freezing your current pills.
Here's a good article on FishOils . . . educate you a little bit more - Don't mind the advertised brand - t-nation has some sort of contract with that company.

And thanks for the congrats! As said above - I know I've got to step it up physically to reach my ultimate goals . . . So that's what I'm starting to do now.

Oh - btw - the brand I'm using right now I got from WalMart - Holista Premium omega 3 fish oil . . . I'm in Canada . . . so that may make a difference in Brands available.
Another thing about the fish oil!!! A few years back I was seeing a psychiatrist for my depression (and a horrible mis-diagnosis of bi-polar disorder) and she prescribed me fish oil. I did have to take the coated kind because I have gerds (acid reflux) disease and it can cause heart burn.
Scientists have seen great effects on all forms of depression and one theory is that its because Americans especially don't get enough omega 3. We eat too many processed and fatty (not the good kind) foods (Jee, I wonder
LOL).
It has helped me with both my depression, acne, and pms. It helped my hubby with his eczema.
I did get ucky burps once in a great while, but with the coated kind it was minimal. One tip is to make sure it's fairly fresh. I've personally tried some from Wal Mart and Costco with good results.
Now, ya got me thinking, maybe I need to reincorporate that into my lifestyle... I've been slacking in the vitamin area.
Hey Girl....Congrats!!! that is awesome.
I watch a lot of tv programs on weight loss, like X-weighted, national body challenge, you are what you eat, biggest loser etc. and losing such a lot in a short time is really not that uncommon.............. especially when you have gone from one extreme eating everything plan to a healthy plan.
Sure you may plateau now your body is over the shock, but what a great motivation.!!!
Keep up the good work!!!:-)
Al.
