Weight gain due to period? -

Quote  |  Reply

I gained about 7 pounds since last Thursday! Is this possible?! The only thing i can think of is that i'm starting my period and maybe it is all water weight? I'm also feeling very sluggish and when i tried to work out i got a really bad headache. I finished nonetheless (i'm determined) but, i couldn't give it my all. (i'm just glad i got through it). Regardless, i know this weekend i went a little off of my 1200 calorie intake and didn't get to do my exercises (i did go out and walk around, do some heavy cleaning etc)... but i dont think that would make me gain 7 lbs. or i hope not.

Anyway, if someone could please give me encouragement i would greatly appreciate it. I feel so unmotivated right now and i can't quite grasp what to do...

 - to anyone who reads this, thank you! :)

Yes, I'm 99% sure it's your period, unless you binged over 24000 calories on top of your normal intake since last Thursday!  Trust me, water weight gain around TTOM is totally normal.  I have gained 8 lbs before!  But it all goes away, so be patient, and I'm sure you'll feel better soon. :)

Thanks... i sure hope so! and though i did eat more than i should have, i didnt eat that much! lol... :) thanks again.
Don't worry... same thing always happens to me. The other day I freaked out a bit  when I looked at myself in the mirror, then stepped on the scale, I was so angry and didn't know what I did wrong... a day later... tada!  I was on my period... and it all made sense. Is it just with me or do you guys feel slimmer after your period? I'm always three pounds or so lighter.

yes! i always do feel lighter... sucks though, i feel like i'm always super into working out before i start my period and then tadah, a week later i start... kind of makes working out pointless LOL. Anyway, i'm not giving up and i can't wait until this time of the month is gone again! - thanks for your motivation!
its water weight

It seems like right before I start I get this burst of energy and I can clean house all day long. Then the next day I will start and I don't feel like doing anything. Mom said that your body knows its going to be down for a few days so it gives you a burst of energy before to help you prepare. Sounds crazy but I have heard of pregnant women doing the same thing.

Either way, I usually do feel huge and fat while I am on my period and the day I get off I feel so much better! I end up running in and out of the bathroom though to get rid of the excess water that I was holding on to.

crazy, that is me to a T, a couple days before my period im up cleaning the house at 4 am and I go all day long with this huge amount of energy like I drank tons of caffiene or something but I havent. Then once I get it all i want to do is sleep for the first couple of days. Boy oh boy how our period sometimes does a number on us!
I know, angiethe1, guys get it so easy sometimes!! I am so jealous. Then they wonder why we get so annoyed and grouchy. :P
yeah similar stuff happens to me too...I get SUPER motivated JUST before my TOM, then boom, like 2 days before - I gain, then I feel like garbage. But oddly enough, even though I gain slightly (like 1 or 2 pounds just before) I tend to lose MORE weight right (like 4lbs)after I have TOM...it's like it makes my metabolism go nuts or something?! I almost look forward to getting TOM b/c of this! LOL

I pulled this right off the caloriecount.about.coms question and answer section, it may help to know that its coming from people that really know there stuff! Hope it helps:

How did I gain 4 pounds in one day? Temporary weight gain is most likely a result of water retention, which can be caused by eating too much sodium. Water is heavy: a gallon weighs 8.34 pounds. In the body, sodium is found in the tissues outside of the blood vessels. If sodium becomes too concentrated, water rushes in to lower the concentration. The result is puffiness, often seen in the fingers and ankles as gravity pushes water to the ground. To eliminate excess sodium and water, reduce dietary salt intake and drink plain water to flush out the system. In women, the hormones of the menstrual cycle can also cause sodium retention. Certain medications can cause water retention as well

This weekend was like that for me, I was up 4 lbs overnight! Ugh. I've decided to push water and not weigh until next weekend, by then the water weight should be nowhere in site.

It's frustrating, isn't it? Another reason not to be tied to the scale, though! Laughing
