im confused i gained 0.2kg last week then stuck to exaxtly the same number of kcals prior to dinner as the previous week, maybe even a tinsy bit reduced on some days and yet i gained 0.6kg this week what's going on? is this normal?
What is your intake at the moment and how long ago did you start increasing? It's very normal for water weight to fluctuate in early recovery. In addition, many things can cause an abnormal fluctuation like a higher sodium intake than usual, or your bowel movements - lots of little things. Take it as a gain, not a number. It's progress.
it's roughly 2600 before i have my dinner whihc varies in calories as it is the family meal id say its roughly 800 though. i'm at the point of trying to stabalise and mantain my weight so not in early recovery. i have added exercise (on monitoring by my therapist) so cld that be anything to do with it as in muscle gain etc? im just worried that my body is in a mode to keep gaining
weight restoration isnt an exact science. dont be freaked out. it doesnt mean you're going to gain .6kg. some weeks you may not gain at all. some weeks .2kg might be it. water accounts for 60-70% of your entire weight. loads of changes happen with salt and even poo!!! when i was an inpatient the staff had a rule that 1kg up or down was weight maintainence. so dont be afraid. this is a nice pace you're going at and you might find that you stop gaining on this amount of food, as you require more as your body speeds up.
well done :D
Not to mention, if this is rather early in recovery for you, or you made a big jump in calories, your body may not have been able to process all of it initially. I had a hard time gaining way back last year because no matter what I ate, it just wasn't being processed. Happened again when I did the jump from 3100 to 3600.
Its much better if you look at your weight gain as cumulative. You gained .2 kg one week, .6 the next. In two weeks, you've gained what? .8 kg? That's like a pound and a half? That's really not that much, right? In IP, they expect you to gain 1kg every 5 days. Just hold your calories where they are. I have experienced the same fear and anxiety, and it does balance out eventually.
I remember ip when they weighed us every day there would be one day 2 pound jump to loose the next a 1.5 pounds. This was with no change in diet. Even my nutritionist said most healthy people vary around 5 pounds in general. There are so many factors. Now with refeeding when you increase your metabolism is still slow and you will retain more fluids. I have very mixed feelings on the scale front because of that and I understand there needs to be monitoring but why I feel you should leave that to the professionals and for some blind weights even help. Try to focus on your goal of health and that the body does fluctuate. It sounds like you are making very good progress
