Weight Gain from lack of sleep?

I've been quite diligent lately logging exercise 5x per week (combo of running and sculpting yoga) yet my weight keeps climbing up.  I'm studying for the LSAT which is a month away and I work full time.  I'm not getting a lot of sleep and I probably am more stressed than I realized but I have gained 8lbs in 3 weeks!?! 

My diet hasn't changed.  Any thoughts?  I'm so frustrated.

I believe lack of sleep can contribute... this is an easy word search... google "weight gain lack of sleep." I could do it, but it's late, I need my sleep and don't want to gain weight.... just kidding.

However, it is extremely unlikely you gained 8 pounds from of sleep.  Eight pounds times 3500 is  28,000, divided by 21 days is 1333 calories...  this is a surplus of 1333 calories per day.  Nope, not from lack of sleep.

Stress can aso contribute, but again not a major factor.

Probably this is from a combination of things,  it is unlikely it is a real gain of eight pounds of fat.
sculpting yoga....you're probably gaining muscle.  this is a good thing!  take out a measuring tape and see if you've really 'gained weight'

Ya, I know I'm bumping an old thread, couldn't find anything on topic more recent (at least not in the last sixty days as per search parameters). "New" studies have established a link between sleep deprivation and obesity http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/05/ 080501062808.htm

Also see this http://www.clickondetroit.com/health/18676071 /detail.html where the 'experts' (with the caveat that they are purveyors of a diet remedy) mention the creation of a hormone that controls appetite while you sleep. Human growth hormone maybe?

Anyway, its common cause that lack of sleep makes you tired (duh) and when you are tired your will power fades so the temptation to eat more, or to eat convenient "junk food' is more difficult to resist, plus you may confuse the feelings of weakness resulting from lack of sleep as a craving for more energy. It all seems rather elementary, but I'm just underscoring that we all need to look at our sleep patterns as an important part of a successful weight-loss strategy.

I became interested in researching this when I came to suspect that my increased snacking was linked to recently dropping my nightly snooze from 8 to 6 hours. I am getting to bed later and its late at night in front of the TV that all resistance crumbles...Anyone else have this problem? (Other than me and OP, obviously)

(edit: added extra brain-farts cos I'm not getting enough sleep to commit all my thoughts at once)
