Celexa 80mg / day
Just increased from 40 to 80 since February 2009 - is this causing weight gain?

I just started Cymbalta and another med for bi-polar. I have gained weight many times from meds. The worst two disadvantages of anti depression meds are weight gain and loss of sexual appetite.
It seems that I gain weight even though I'm not eating that much. Where does it come from? Being over 40, it becomes extremely difficult to maintain my weight. So sometimes I ponder the thought "are these meds really worth it?". I don't know, I think I'd rather be thin without the weight gain and sexually active because I'd be miserable even more if I gained weight again! I really enjoy eating-but it's so hard to stay in check!
But I wouldn't be so quick to write it off as the meds...Like I said, it is natural for over 40 women to maintain their weight. Talk to your doctor about you're feeling, what you like and don't like about the med(s) you are on.
The best med that I have even been on is Topomax. I actually LOST weight. It does not have the weight gain side effect that many of the meds do.
