Hi everyone,
My son needs to gain weight. He is 18 years old, 5'8" and weight 123 lbs. We'll be seeing a nutritionist in a couple of weeks but in the meantime, I was wondering if anyone knows of a website that can suggest menus for healthy weight gain.
Thanks for any info you have!
Hi there, Reensey. As your son is young and ... well, male, he should be eating at least 3000 calories a day to gain weight he can then keep on. This thread includes a menu/meal plan example of 3000 calories as well as tips and food ideas that may help you: The Aim is to Gain: Advice on Weight Gain, Whatever Your Reason
Good luck to you both!
Thanks!!
As a guy i can say that hes gonna want to gain in a good way, looking to gaing muscle and not fat (its a machismo thing). However any weight is good weight, emphasize bodybuilding websites and what they eat, they are not shy to post their meal plans.
Basically your gonna want to emphasize whole foods, brown rice, oatmeal, fish, chicken, lean meats, etc. Then, as im sure hes not a big cooking guy as most of us arent, add in some extra calories such as cooking with some EVOO or butter. Adding some sugar onto the sweet potatos or even some cheese. Making the oatmeal with lots of nuts and dried fruits. Also, maybe refer to 'calories' in terms of nutrients (protein, monosaturated fats, vitamins, etc). Lala also gave you a great cite to look, ill recommend Bodybuilding.com, but you can just google bodybuilding diet and come up with alot of good stuff. Hopw that helps!
Like a personal,portable nutritionist.
