Weight gain after more exercises

Quote  |  Reply

For the last few months I've started exercising more but I added more cardio for the last 2 weeks. I haven't changed my eating habbits but I gained 2 pounds. I know it's not a big deal but if I continue doing this then it will be. So can you tell me the reason for this?

I was actually about to post the same thing. I have been exercising for a while, but regularly since the end of December. I have also been tracking my calories. Yes, some days I go over, but for the most part I am at the gym 4-5 days a week, doing mainly cardio. The scale keeps creeping up, and it is really discouraging. I am interested to hear the reasoning for this as well.

When you start a new exercise program that's challenging for your body, your muscles will often retain a few pounds of water for a couple of weeks (maybe even as long as a month) while they get used to it.  It's not really anything to worry about.

Another thing to consider is where you're at in your monthly cycle as women tend to retain a few pounds of water while PMSing.

Thanks susiecue,

and I've noticed this about the PMSing too, but that's not the case here. I am pretty sure it has to do something whit the exercising.

Ok so we are all in the same mindset...

I just wrote in my journal about the same thing, I am hoping that the reason I haven't lost any is due to the muscle water weight.

I will keep it up though, I know that exercise is the way I lose weight.

when you first start exercising you usually gain weight.. it happened to me. just be patient and stop worrying, you'll see results soon :)
